I have been working at 99 Restaurant & Pub

    Pros

    People, flexibility, advancement opportunities, uniforms

    Cons

Pay is uneven and random among people with the same job position, customers are not what most would call high quality

    I worked at 99 Restaurant & Pub part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good focus on brand and menu knowledge so you know the answers when customers ask questions, and you can make suggestions. Overall positive work environment depending on co-workers.

    Cons

Inflexibility of schedule makes it difficult to get time off when needed, having to beg coworkers to pick up shifts is very stressful & there is a lot of pressure to work for other employees that need time off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although all employees are replaceable, it's better not to look at them that way. Appreciate your staff giving as much as they can to the company instead of being disappointed that they can't give more.

    I worked at 99 Restaurant & Pub part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The money flow is great, and the people are friendly. However, in slow times it can be hard. The hours are flexible and if all is right, most people are team players. This company emphasizes the team player aspect.

    Cons

Can be very fast paced during rush hours, and as in any restaurant, but can be stressful to those not adapted for that pace. It can cause chaos and although the seating is in a fair rotation, sometimes it causes some of the workers to fight over areas or parties. The management can sometimes be non sympathetic to needs of the workers (sick/car failure/family emergency).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is always change in management to accommodate the needs of each location. Being there long term, it was hard to adjust each time. Some management team excelled, where others fail, because of different views. Most do what is best for each store. However, there is a common issue with personal issues. It was run as a buisness, as it should be, but some long term associates were not given the compassion for major issues that was needed (moving/hard times, etc). I encourage all management to be more sympathetic to the needs of their workers. Not all, but some did not take the time to review any details of any cases.

I have been working at 99 Restaurant & Pub

    Pros

Depending on the restaurant the team atmosphere can be really good. Most management is very supportive.

    Cons

Not all restaurants are run the same. Some are better than others. Burn out is bound to happen in any serving job.

I have been working at 99 Restaurant & Pub

    Pros

Promote from within, allows for growth and learning. Good training programs for hourly and management. Attainable bonus.

    Cons

if you become a manager, you will likely be thrown to the wolves after training in whatever the worst unit in the company is with little to no support. No work life balance if you are a BOH manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either allow OT regularly for good hourly team members or allow for an assistant manager to the Kitchen manager in all locations. Making labor is impossible in a low volume store when you cannot staff appropriately and also do managerial duties.

    Pros

    Great co-workers
    Straightforward work
    Relaxed environment
Opportunity to make solid money in tips

    Cons

    Not much opportunity for advancement
    Frequent, unnecessary changes from corporate
    Low pay
    Inconsistent hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less focus on promotional gimmicks, more loyalty to good servers and employees. Your servers are the backbone of this place.

    I worked at 99 Restaurant & Pub

    Pros

The 12 week training program which takes a person through every hourly front and back of the house position before you get into management training is a great snapshot of the functions of all employees.

    Cons

I came out of management training with an Operations Director who was more of a divide and conquer management versus building collaboration amongst stores in their division. The company was being sold at this time and there was huge turnover in my division amongst all hourly positions and management. Transition to new owners was a very sloppy process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Doe family created a great organizational culture by providing a work environment where people were supported by management and were motivated to deliver great food and service to all guests. This company transitioning from a family owned business to a publicly traded company had more negatives than positives. I saw a tremendous amount of competent and tenured employees leave in a mass exodus which in my opinion destroyed the great work of the Doe family to create a culture you wanted to work for.

I have been working at 99 Restaurant & Pub full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent, friendly, approachable upper management. The VP made rounds to restaurants on Mother's Day just to thank the working mothers. Fun contests, team building outtings, incentives, etc
    Benefits are great
Quality of life above normal standards

    Cons

Draws a sometimes difficult demographic to manage because of less than average hourly wages.
Occasional lack of operational management accountability can leave those with good work ethics picking up slack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a more structured path to higher positions and follow up to utilize the in-house management talent.
