I have been working at Aéropostale part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great place to work if you are motivated to sell and wear all the latest fashion trends to work
    - Plenty of work to keep you busy so you are never bored

    Cons

    - pays minimum wage
    - Not a lot of hours
    - Minimal training from management
    - Having to do multiple jobs (cashier and fill) at once can be stressful
    - The company is currently not doing too well
    - Always looks to outside the company to fill management positions so there is little opportunity for a promotion
    - The typical customer cannot speak english so communication is limited for selling

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Learn how to motivate your employees and congratulate them when they do a good job
    - Act like you care about them as a person instead of a slave to the job

    Pros

Exceptional discount, good and helpful corporate management

    Cons

Poor, unprofessional atmosphere; favors near-harassment of customers to earn sale; lack of competent leadership up top. Be prepared to work long hours.

I have been working at Aéropostale part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, although I'm not too sure if Aeropostale clothes are too popular anymore. Discount's allow for a good number of new clothes every month.

    Cons

At least for me personally, I found unless you can represent the company's target audience, teenage girls and boys primarily, it seems you won't be scheduled too much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more fair in terms of scheduling and perhaps get to know employees more. Seems like employer's are just looking out for themselves.

I have been working at Aéropostale part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The managers really worked around my school schedule. Working nights was fun and the closing was done relatively fast.

    Cons

On the weekends, the store would be really busy, making it difficult to still fold clothes and help customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work with students' schedules. It really helps to manage school and work.

    Pros

    Discount 30% and 50% twice a month
    Easy work.

    Cons

Store managers would have so much stress or work that they took it out on others.

    Cons

Work life balance, very little payroll and company not doing well

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Intern - Assistant Manager and Graphic Designer in New York, NY

I worked at Aéropostale as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I was a hard worker. I worked for the company for 4 years. I moved my way up. I even interned at the corporate office in my field as a graphic designer. Did have to pay for my own on everything but to have a good opportunity to work in the fashion district was amazing.

    Cons

I did not like Aeros views as a company. They were trying to be fashion forward but did not realize they were getting customers who just want cheap clothes. I shared my opinion at corporate but got shut down I was wrong. Then a year later...they almost had bankruptcy. They changed their style as "Aero Now" which was a good step for the company but I honestly thought it was too late.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys could of done better if you started the "Aero Now" 5 years ago. Stop buying licensed products and start selling your fashion forward items a tad bit more. Get better customers other than the customers who want 3 dollar graphic tees.

Former Employee - Store Manager in Wauwatosa, WI

I worked at Aéropostale full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Salary and bonus structure were very good for retail. Generous employee discount.

    Cons

Company had no real plan of action. Very reactionary to markdowns and promotions with no time to execute changes effectively. Expectation was that store manager would always stay to finish tasks.

Employees were not appreciated by anyone above store level. Upper management has a vision of "Aerocool" for associates that is simply not representative of client base. One of theost toxic corporate cultures I had ever seen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of on-call shifts and do something for your associates. These people bust their tails for close to minimum wage and get no respect in the company.
