I worked at A&W Restaurants full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It always looked like it was a lot more laid back than other fast food chains. More freedom than most places. Perhaps it was because A&W is not quite as popular, so we aren't always busy. They aren't constantly hiring, so there is plenty of hours if you're up to working them. We got to listen to the radio, but normally we would just hook our own MP3 player up to it.

    Cons

Minimum wage for most, but should be expected
There is no guarantee for a raise
In the winter it is slow and they sometimes lay people off until spring
Being that it is fast food, you will most likely have to witness a lot of drama between the cashiers and sometimes the cooks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give raises after a certain period of time, especially to those that deserve it. Other than that, keep doing what you're doing. The constant coupons are a sure hit to bring people in. One last thing, never do 25 cent coneys again.

I have been working at A&W Restaurants full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

My co-workers are great, and so are the products.

    Cons

No insurance, no advancement opportunities, haven't had a raise in almost 5 years. I have had my boss(the owner) tell me he doesn't care about my personal life and its not his problem. (I am single mother). I have had minimal training on any of the new items events other A&W stores are doing. I can count on one hand how many times I have seen anyone from Corporate in our store in the past 6 years I have worked here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training should be equal in all stores not just the ones that make the most money, how can you expect smaller stores to grow and keep up with new ideas and products if there is zero to no training for certain stores?

    Pros

Got a mediocre amount of hours, ability to talk to coworkers behind the counter, very good coworkers, great with getting time off I needed

    Cons

Very hard work, little to no praise, disrespectful management, small food discount, no chance of escaping minimum wage, cold fries which would be thrown away can be bought by employees half price, jacking up food prices from normal A&Ws
