    I worked at A-dec full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a very "family" type work atmosphere. A-dec cares about their community and does a few extra's for their employees to show they care. Great retirement plan.

    Cons

Very political and some of the lower/middle management is a joke. The company seems to be taking a turn from putting employees first to caring about the bottom line which will really ruin the good thing they have going.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget about your employees who make A-dec the great company it is. The bottom line is not always the most important thing. Take care of your people.

    I worked at A-dec full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They are a stable company and they have a good retirement plan. They are a domestic leader, but will have to work hard to maintain that position.

    Cons

They do some promoting within but you stand a better chance of getting promoted if you are a friend of management ('good ol boy').
I agree with another reviewer - they used to care for their people, knew they were what was important to a business. But they have become less people oriented now. They claim they care for their people but it seems more talk than anything now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be understanding of employee's situations in life...truly have a concern for people - don;' be so cold hearted...

    I have been working at A-dec full-time

    Pros

Stable, purposeful about change, respect of its history and founding, appreciative of contributions

    Cons

Lack of agility, slow-moving, low-tech in the office, no transparency between organizational levels, hard to make an impact, decisions/changes weighed on "what would the founders do?"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize different types of expertise around you. What you're looking for in "leaders" may not actually be what the organization needs to survive and thrive. Make sure the family-friendly and employee-caring attitude is more than just a facade- actually listen to your employees, especially when they have more expertise.

I worked at A-dec (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Individual contributors and low level management are fantastic. They care about each other, about the customer, and about quality.

    Cons

Senior management are not self-aware. They don't respect diversity. They say they want people to take control of situations, initiate change, and be open in their communication but then resent those who do. I'm not sure if this is limited to the VP-level or if it goes all the way to the top (Scott).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with yourselves. You use the at-will employment rules. You say you're acting 'fair' when you're only fair when it fits your desires.

I have been working at A-dec full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is fair and retirement program is exceptional. On the surface the culture is friendly and "family". Mostly genuine, nice people and a nice place to work.

    Cons

The niceness is forced in a strange sort of Stepford way. No one is allowed to rock the boat, every word out of your mouth must be carefully measured, you take a great risk if you disagree with anyone. The culture will stunt your growth; if that's a problem for you, join but don't stay past the vestment period.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop fearing innovation and stop trying to tightly manage it, you are killing it. Ditch those few middle level managers that suppress people's careers and creativity.

This company has changed! It is not how it used to be. It is not how it appears in the glossy brochures!

    I worked at A-dec full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A stable company with a long rich history of innovation. Dental is a great industry to be in with very few real competitors. A-dec products are sold internationally.

    Cons

Too many legacy processes with departments blaming other departments at every turn. Many incompetent managers from the good old boy network. Very low pay and this company is extremely top heavy. Stay far away! Really too far to drive from NE or SE Portland.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trim the ever-growing fat VP salaries and pay attention to people that really do the work. Pay the employees what they are worth rather than preserve executive perks.

    Pros

Company that attracts an exceptional employee base. The employees are truly committed to the company and to each other. A-dec produces superior quality products that have a direct impact on the dental community. One of the items that stands out about this company is its track record of giving back to the community.

    Cons

Slow to adopt new technology that supports its infrastructure.

    I worked at A-dec

    Pros

Excellent products and customer service support, making it very easy to enthusiastically sell and support the products.

    Cons

    Poor training programs, excessive politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find better ways to develop and support your people. Find a more constructive review process. Everyone whether in the factory or out in the field is disheartened by the review process, but cannot admit it to their supervisors.
