I have been working at A10 Networks full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good talented engineers working with great enthusiasm.

    Cons

Low salary / pathetic executive management driving the company to ruins, esp the engineering heads. Engineers in dev / QA dont have any life....worst work hours, zero/minimum recognition (actually they make fun by paying pathetic bonus)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step aside and let someone capable enough run the company.

Former Employee - Senior Software Engineer in San Jose, CA

I worked at A10 Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company's strength is good hardware, which beats their competitors in many places, market is growing, and they can be good position if they can do right.

    Cons

Needless to say, Saturday work is No.1 cons. Because of this, smart engineers won't come. Software is so messy from the beginning, nobody has ownership of modules (there is no modularity though), and because of poor design of foundation, individual engineer has to do a lot of unnecessary manual work, very error prone. No good engineering or release process. Top management has strong favoritism to gather only certain privileged engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop doing Saturday work immediately. If you do it, productivity will improve and some smart engineer may come.
Follow organization hierarchy, follow your boss, talk to your team member, don't assign job to individual engineer by bypassing intermediate managers.

And one more thing to management, admit your failure, in other words take your responsibility. You cannot just say "work harder" to engineers, without showing you being their backup.

Lack of Finance and HR Leadership and Partnership

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at A10 Networks (more than a year)

    Pros

Great technology and an amazing R&D organization.

    Cons

Poor finance and HR organizations run by an inexperienced and deceptive leader is hampering the company's growth. Finance is very political and has terminated 100% of its employees in the past 6 months. Most organizations in the company avoid working with finance as much as possible. HR lacks experience and knowledge at the top. Poor benefits with no 401K match. To cap this off, finance leader has a company paid luxury box ticket and parking to all 49ers games at Levi's stadium while no other executive has this perk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve Finance, HR processes and reduce the politics and inefficiencies in these two organizations or company will not be able to realize its potential.
