    Pros

Free tea and coffee for staff

    Cons

No development, penny pinching, travel without overnight stays, cliques and in crowd favourites of managers, poor planning, no performance reviews, inappropriate staff, lack of HR processes, think they know more than they do. Needs a clear out of middle managers that block creativity. Poor flexible working, poor planning.

    Advice to Management

    Stop blocking creativity.

    Pros

Fast paces, lots of projects, small enough to feel your are having some influence

    Cons

Confused and changing priorities, knee jerk culture

    Advice to Management

Try not to do everything, but do the important things more thoroughly

    Pros

During my time with A4e (over 5 years), I met some of the most dedicated and capable staff as well as some of the loveliest people ever. I felt that I had made a real difference to some of the learners I worked with.

    Cons

The lack of communication between the different departments and the lack of concern from senior management for the effects of this on general motivation of staff is apparent within five minutes of working there. Poor management meant that appalling staff carried on with their behaviours, doing considerable damage to customer prospects and staff morale as well as reputation. Completely reactive company, jumping from one working practice to another every couple of months with no thought as to long term repercussions and little acknowledgement when the current practice is shown as unsuitable. Not uncommon to see staff (across many different regions) in tears on a daily basis. Lots of advisors who have clearly never heard the saying' there but for the grace of God..' and display an openly hostile attitude to customers.

    Advice to Management

value your staff, manage them better and give people breathing room to see the effects of new working practices before changing them. Use Performance Management properly and you might see better results in both results and morale

    Pros

laid back and can turn up when you want. Most people want to get in early hours set up their day and that's what they have been used to with other employers. However here you just turn up when you want and have breakfast and chat for an hour then go shopping.

    Cons

Wages are poor. promises are made on employment about career progression and pay rises, training and development. This does not happen!!!! in six years I have stayed in the same job role and have had no opportunity to our progress, even though it was promised to me and I have earned it!!!! when I find a new job I will never return.

    Advice to Management

Stop exploiting your employees and treated everyone differently creating animosity and resentment within your work force. Long term employees who have been loyal and hard working are not rewarded....just left on the side lines to rot. Look at your turn over of staff! I mean who have left not been made redundant during those massive lay offs.

    Pros

a chance to help people, colleagues are generally young and dynamic, usually nice offices

    Cons

chasing the money means that work often goes ahead before it has been planned properly, head office makes a lot of looking after employees and business ethics but they are out of touch with outlying services, although it looks as though you get promoted through applying, getting to know the right people does matter

    Advice to Management

visit outlying services more often and really listen to staff

    Pros

During the years I worked for A4e, I made lovely friends, met some great learners and every day was different. We were praised and rewarded for our achievements. Health and Safety was ultra important as was Equality and Diversity. A4e stretches the mind, offers opportunity for those with 'can do' mentality and fulfills many ambitions and dreams.

    Cons

Challenges - never met any of those. If you are in it for the love of it, winning is a natural course. I have a port folio of qualifications many sponsored and encouraged by A4e. Appraisals were always about progression for the consecutive year. With a little forethought and imagination there is always something more to do which complements the work to be done. Further more I have some lovely cards and dinky gifts from the people's lives I improved.

    Advice to Management

Be brave and don't allow yourselves to be maneuvered off track.
