Pros
Ability to telecommute and benefits.
Cons
Too much politics. Difficult to get the right thing done. The way the organization is set up is inefficient.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire people that are competent enough to take ownership of their own work.
Pros
Its a name that people know nation wide
Connected with some big groups
Cons
Need to make sure you get paid the right amount, they tend to forget days you are working
Benefits do not start until about three months in - try to negotiate something to hold you over
Overall benefits had some high points but much better packages at other companies
People tend to work in silos – nobody really wants to work together, mindset seems to be passive aggressive
Management is not aware of what is happening – mixed messages from all sides
Lack of respect for individual needs
Overall pay tends to be below average
Overall strategies tend to be out dated or trying to keep up with others – not leading the pack
Management seems clues on the advantages of technology
Advice to Senior Management
The group is seems overwhelming outdated – bring in new mangers won’t resolve overarching issues, strategies need to change… but maybe getting bought by another club was a good thing
Look at changing your whole mindset - your membership is getting older… the younger generation has more options at a better prices
Pros
PTO, educational oppportunities, insurance and membership discounts
Cons
Too many managemenr and structural changes too quickly; 'brain drain' when laying off dedicated and knowledgeable employees; staff morale is at it's lowest...when visitiing a local office on the Peninsula, no one smiled, said hello or made the customers feel welcome. It's almost like the customer was an imposition. Employees have lost professionalism and banter back and forth about personal stuff in front of the customer. As a formwr employee, I was embarrassed to witness this. AAA used to be the best, but now I wonder if it is imploding.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire back managers who know AAA and can bring back the 'spark'. Consider not having goals for the front line and them holding them accountable for lack of walk-in opportunities. Bring back some form of claims rep to the local offices; it's what made AAA different and brought lots of sales opportunities into the offices. And Senior Executives should not be given bonuses for anything; they don't deserve them.
Pros
The people at AAA, CSAA, ACA, The insurance Exchange, the Club - whatever their name is today, are among the best in the world.
Cons
Dysfuctional leadership. Top heavy and stagnated leadership. Way too many in effective CEO's. Massive waste. Lack of ability to focus. Constant re-orgs with poor outcome. Poorly designed and executed products, systems and work flows.
Advice to Senior Management
Members own this club. Sadly they will have to be the force of change to repair the damage. Lets just hope there is something left to save once all the damage is done.
Pros
work life balance, 401K match and pension
Cons
too many reorganizations - employees under stess about job security - two headquarter moves in less than two years
Advice to Senior Management
Be truthful with the employess - stop the reorgs and bring back vision and values
Pros
Good salary and work-life balance. Really nice headquarters, free parking and great cafeteria (I'm serious!). AAA does amazing things for the community, particularly its volunteer program. People are generally nice enough, though executives are cutthroat. AAA's mission of protecting members through insurance and roadside service is a noble one, but the downsides of a career here (keep reading) are many.
Cons
As much as this company espouses a flat organization and lack of hierarchy, they're fooling themselves. However, the biggest con is just the sheer number of layoffs in the past three years. The headquarters has literally been gutted of its best employees, some of whom had years of knowledge and experience. For those (lucky?) enough to still be working for AAA, there's a genuine everyday fear of how much longer they'll have a job. Walking the floors of the headquarters is like being at a funeral procession. Nobody dares to crack a smile.
Let's face it: AAA is a brand grasping for air as competitors make them irrelevant in so many areas, especially technology and roadside service. The culture, which at one time stressed AAA's "Vision & Values," has been abandoned and is now a workplace of fear and panic as even an offhand comment from a senior executive leads to scrambling by middle management. Sadly, there's an utter lack of trust in senior management, both the club and the insurance company (they split into two companies in 2011).
Finally, I voluntarily left, so I'm not disgruntled. I'm just merely able to assess working at AAA much more clearly now that I no longer work there. I genuinely feel sorry for those still there.
Advice to Senior Management
Unfortunately, there's nothing I can offer that will help this situation.
Pros
Descent pay (only recently), new building, parking, great benefits, amazing people, great brand
Cons
Reorg, reorg! At least every 6 months. We do this very well. Hire consulting firms to come in change something not broken! Massive chaos with a separation that has left long tenure employees jobless. It's all about who you know and playing the political game. Management could care less about the employees! Reduce expenses, reduce....grow, grow.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your values back! Start with your employees, the heavy haulers, you may succeed?? Take accountability, get involved with the folks that help you show up and get paid! There is no personal respect or values, you don't walk the talk!
Pros
It provides good benefits and believes in work/life balance. When I had my job there, my commute was 15 minutes!
Cons
Constant reorganization! It was difficlut to work when you know you may get laid off along with many others!
Advice to Senior Management
The company needs to determine a strategy and stick to it. Constant reorganization will not provide world class customer service!
Pros
A very team oriented set of employees, from senior management to the little guy, they take everything with the utmost of care and attention.
Cons
Working with any set of people, there are the obvious bad consequences that come with team dynamics. Not everyone will always get along and it is tricky in any workplace to find a balance between the ego and the objective side of any issue.
Advice to Senior Management
They are doing the best they can. They really do listen and take the effort to fix things.
Pros
Really care about their employees, very ethical company ,good leadership
Cons
in process of major structural change
