I worked at AACAP full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small staff; great place to start a career for recent grads. Very collegial environment in beautiful, safe neighborhood.

    Cons

High turnover rate among junior staff, largely due to low pay and few opportunities for advancement within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Value the junior staff and tap into potential of fresh perspectives. Under-40 professional prioritize job growth opportunities and are eager to share.

    Pros

Great Mission Good Members New Executive Director is Good

    Cons

    Poor Pay Old Building

    Advice to Management

If pay was comparable to other organizations I would have given it 5 stars

I have been working at AACAP (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are okay. Good mission. Salary (if you're a director)

    Cons

Office politics reign supreme. There is absolutely no respect/consideration for the IT department. Compensation, even for a non-profit, falls short. No room for advancement. Management has an "us vs employee" mentality. Certain departments will get anything they want despite cost (financial and otherwise). Certain departments receive special treatment and bully others into getting their way. Salary (non-director).

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! Trust their experience and knowledge. If they don't know something, teach them rather than take it from them. Don't throw their experiential knowledge out the window.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at AACAP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If not in a Director's position, some very hard working people.

    Cons

Toxic environment; no opportunities for growth ; worst management I have ever worked for. Low salaries

    Advice to Management

Stop using your power to threaten your team, acknowledge their hard work, instead of putting the down, so you can lower their salary, but increase yours.

I worked at AACAP full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really? I can't think of one thing.

    Cons

Culture from the top down. The ED is just a figure head & the staff is just bitter and mean. There aren't any SOP's in place and they refuse to implement any. The turnover rate is extremely high. Not recommended unless you have very low self esteem and can't do any better.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue and some real management training.

  7. Great mission, horrible management

    Pros

Great Mission Colleagues are generally fantastic to work with Benefits are decent enough

    Cons

The turnover is horrible and there's no cross training so when someone leaves they take a lot information with them. Upper Management has an "us vs. them mentality" and does not want input from "lower" employees. Staff is not trusted (even with the most basic knowledge) so Directors hoard information that's vital for staff to do their job.

    Advice to Management

    Fear does not breed respect

  8. Helpful (1)

    Don't work at AACAP.

    Pros

The mission is great. The staff are mostly nice people.

    Cons

Horrible turnover. Senior management needs to go. No respect for staff--assume the worst of people. Big culture divide. Senior management (top 3) can do anything. Rest of staff are considered "not a loss" when they leave.

    Advice to Management

Get a new executive director! Extremely outdated thinking. Unprofessional approach. Waste of money on stupid stuff but not enough on important things like salary and professional development.
