I have been working at AAFP full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Family friendly
Great benefits (e.g. week between Christmas & New Year's off, employee appreciation week, "gifted" half days off, etc)
Free to find your own way within your job, but guidance when needed
    Friendly staff
Feel like you're making a positive impact on family medicine

    Cons

A lot of employees have spent most (if not all) of their careers here; having not had corporate or other experience, they don't realize how good they've got it. Their complaints & resistance to change can be frustrating. I have to say, the grass isn't greener on the other side -- this grass is the greenest I've experienced!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think we're moving in the right direction, trying to move away from divisional silos and into a more integrated organization. Keep it up!

I have been working at AAFP

    Pros

Potential to be a great employer.

    Cons

Leadership is lacking big time but they are confident they are doing everything right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None. They don't care anyway.

I have been working at AAFP

    Pros

There are some good people who work there and do a good job.

    Cons

Poor performers are not reprimanded. No recognition or compensation for good work. Management chases after the latest business fad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep and reward the good people and weed out the poor performers.

This organization is very unstable due to incompent leadership.

I have been working at AAFP

    Pros

Other employees are kind and caring people

    Cons

Incompetent leadership claims to have vision, but there is no plan, no direction and changes that are made for the sake of change, not for the best interest of the member.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

    Great place to work

I have been working at AAFP

    Pros

Excellent benefits with an extra week off around the holidays plus vacation, a gym, and a flexible schedule that would be fantastic for working parents. The AAFP does some really positive work for family physicians, so it's a job that you can feel good about. A lot of employees have worked here over 20+ years.

    Cons

The job atmosphere really depends on what department you end up in -- some are more satisfying than others and have better management than others. Like many corporate jobs, the work can be a little repetitive. The AAFP is slow about using new technology.

Stable with good benefits, but senior management is bad

I have been working at AAFP

    Pros

Good benefits, very good work/life balance, pretty stable place to work. If your are looking for a place to work with generous seek days/vacation policies, benefits like tuition reimbersment, trainings, etc., it's not bad at all.

    Cons

Senior management. They are just dumb. And by being dumb they do stupid desicions, be it restructuring or new policies, or wasting money on some stupid ideas. Performance recognition is poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop learning how to manage along the way. Learn it BEFORE you make any management decisions.
