I worked at AAR as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

AAR is basically a training facility for people starting their careers in the airline industry. You learn a lot in this company and it definitely helps you out in future endeavors.

    Cons

The pay at AAR is considerably low compared to other companies. Unless you are a mechanic, it is very difficult to move up in this company. Having a degree in this company is not relevant.

    Advice to Management

Look into the young people at the company who are seeking their degrees and try and keep them. They will be an asset to the company.

I have been working at AAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

family type of environment great hrs. at times lots of OT when there is work in abundance.

    Cons

with out OT the pay may not be enough. its very hard to move up in directions other than management. Very reactive not proactive.

    Advice to Management

give people a reason to stay especially the young ones. stop being proactive. and upper management needs to take a more active role in what is going on in production, so that the techs can have it known that when there is an issue then something is being done. when there isnt there is a feeling that no one cares.

    Pros

Great place to work with good people and hands on approach.

    Cons

Lack of communication throughout the company. Often times deadlines that were known about for 6 months would be passed along a week or sometimes even days before deadline arrived.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees know what's going on. They would be receptive to the respect given when letting people know what the future looks like. Employees would feel much more empowered and invested in company

    Pros

Promotions within the company are good. They respect your need for time off.

    Cons

The upper management is clueless and often purposely keep each other in the dark.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees to find out what is really going on. You need to come out from behind the closed doors and meeting.

    Pros

The local staff was the best part of the organization and the top executives out of Chicago made several trips to Huntsville to learn about the business and provide a forum to interact with the middle management team.

    Cons

The benefit package is surprisingly sparse for the size of this business and financial profit margin objectives were unrealistic for the defense market place.

    Advice to Management

Way too much turn over at the general manager and controller level of the local organization. You should consider local talent that is connected with the defense market place.
