  1. Pretty decent place to work other than lack of communication and internal promotions.

    Pros

Great place to work with good people and hands on approach.

    Cons

Lack of communication throughout the company. Often times deadlines that were known about for 6 months would be passed along a week or sometimes even days before deadline arrived.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees know what's going on. They would be receptive to the respect given when letting people know what the future looks like. Employees would feel much more empowered and invested in company

    Pros

I was a welder and really enjoyed working there because I could work at my own pace as long as I met production. Welding machines and equipment was nice.

    Cons

Pay wasn't the best but it was OK.

    Pros

Most of the people are good. It's not a Charles Dickens novel come to life (I think).

    Cons

The company was founded in the 1950s, and it seems like it still the 1950s at AAR once you have been on the scene for a short time. It's boys club. A white boys club. There are only a few women in manager or higher positions. Then they are mostly white.
It is impossible to move up there unless you know or are related to someone high up. Mainly the CEO, who seems like he is itching for a hostile take over or buy out.
Benefits and time off also come from the 1950s.
Any change comes grudgingly. Unless it comes from the very top, and that usually comes with lay offs and / or renovations that cost in the high six figure range.
    Raises trickle in.

    Advice to Management

The powers that be need to stop the meaningless bone tossing.
Stop jumping on trendy things that you will lose interested in quickly.
Treat the employees like they truly matter, and aren't just there to help make money for share holders.
Add some color to the staff. Not just in the warehouse, but throughout the ranks.
Also add women to the staff in higher positions.
In general, stop acting like the current AAR that has one foot and a half in the past, and act like the progressive company you claim to be.

    Pros

Promotions within the company are good. They respect your need for time off.

    Cons

The upper management is clueless and often purposely keep each other in the dark.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees to find out what is really going on. You need to come out from behind the closed doors and meeting.

Possibility of moving up (if you put yourself out there)
    Tuition Reimbursement

    Cons

    Pay is mediocre
Management is slightly imcompetent on its best day
Most employees are bitter and angry about their status

    Advice to Management

Stick to the promises you make to employees. Pay a little more and recognize hard work when you see it.

Very large publicly traded company that bought a couple of small local businesses to enter the Huntsville market place.

    Pros

The local staff was the best part of the organization and the top executives out of Chicago made several trips to Huntsville to learn about the business and provide a forum to interact with the middle management team.

    Cons

The benefit package is surprisingly sparse for the size of this business and financial profit margin objectives were unrealistic for the defense market place.

    Advice to Management

Way too much turn over at the general manager and controller level of the local organization. You should consider local talent that is connected with the defense market place.

    Pros

Ability to gain much needed experience for new mechanics. Thats it.

    Cons

I could make more managing a Dairy Queen than working on Aircraft for this company. They absolutely rape their skilled employees in all areas...over worked...grossly underpaid...etc. Also completely disregard any leg up you think you may get from being a veteran. They could care less that you actually have a stone hard work ethic and will bend over backwards to get stuff done in a correct and timely fashion. Instead they will print you a t-shirt for veterans day...and continue to pay you less than the cleaning crew they employ. Veterans please look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at yourselves...(all you guys in the Crystal Palace). Then when you're done walk down to the floor, up to every individual employee. Apologize to them...Then go back upstairs and correct yourselves. A healthy bottom line doesn't mean anything if your employees are so downtrodden that they output subpar aircraft maintenance.

    Pros

You can basically do whatever you want. Sales guys don't ever show up for work and no one says anything. The branch president is oblivious.

    Cons

There is no structure. Everything is excusable including the sexual harassment and bullying.

    Advice to Management

    Clean house.
