Overall a good place to work but is too bureaucratic and political work place.

Manager (Current Employee)
Bangalore (India)

I have been working at ABB (India) full-time for more than a year

ProsGood work life balance, job security

ConsLow paymasters, bureaucratic, too much politics

Advice to Senior ManagementIts important to distinguish between good and not so good workers so as to motivate the good and correct the other not so good which is completely missing in the company. Also retaining unwanted workforce is a cost to the company.

ABB - An equal opportunity employer

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at ABB (India) full-time for more than 5 years

ProsABB is a place to learn many things. The company is very process-oriented and customer-focussed. It always welcomes innovative ideas and the management does not hesitate to allow the employees to work on materializing the ideas.

ConsA very conservative environment to work in and the organizational hierarchy is very flat. The work pressure is high when it is close to the release of the project. There is no work from home option, which is a major drawback.

Advice to Senior ManagementRelax policies related to time logging, provide work from option, and look at providing promotions at all levels.

Good work life balance

Engineer Software Development - Management Cadre (Current Employee)
Nelamangala (India)

I have been working at ABB (India) full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Good people. Good team.
- Good work-life balance. Work load low-moderate.
- Management is very reachable(but not not responsive and cooperative).

Cons- Limited opportunities, work and technology-wise. As projects are few and that too almost similar, domain is fixed and learning curve is flat.
- Travel and higher management positions are heavily biased towards a electrical engineers, though I work in a software project.
- Pay-wise, appreciation has been very bad for me despite of highest ratings.
- Very poor cafeteria.
- Nelamangala - Bad.. bad location, miles outside city limits.

Advice to Senior Management- Understand the importance of skill and competency development. Think for employee growth perspective as well, not only from project completion point of view.
- Be truthful and accountable, have a clear understanding of responsibilities and goals.
- Live in deeds, not in hours.

If you want career growth, This is not your company. Increments depends on whether you are managers pet,

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Bangalore (India)

I have been working at ABB (India) full-time for more than 3 years

ProsRelaxed working culture. If you want just a standard salary & bother less life, this is the place.

ConsNot performance driven environment. Software implementation teams lack quality.
Increments depends on whether you are managers pet. No promotions based on you performance. its more depend on your year of experience. Very less onsite opportunities.
No employee satisfaction improvement activities.

Advice to Senior ManagementClear of the Junk employees in your office. bring performance driven culture rather than manager pet culture. see whether an employee is delivering what he is expected to do. Id he is not delivering question the manage who is in charge. assign people the work they as expected to do, not the available junk of work (like asking a developer to go & do the testing of products) Also find new good work for the employees. Bring good practices that improve employee satisfaction.
