Former Contractor - IT Support in San Jose, CA

I worked at ABBTECH Professional Resources as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Recruits people for Information Technology type jobs in government. Requires background checks prior to starting job. Offers standard benefits to contract employes at standard rates. Paid weekly.

    Cons

Probable inexperienced recruiters who send out starting paperwork late then demand that it be filled out and returned ASAP or they will end your assignment immediately. No one likes being threatened with losing a job before they begin it. No compensation for expenses incurred for security checks prior to starting (i.e. travel to fingerprinting facility) No compensation for monthly parking/ transportation fees associated with work. ( regular government employees in the office get compensated for parking, using public transportation).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some areas of the country are just more expensive to live in. Pay should be adjusted upwards in these areas if you want to hire and keep competent employees. An annual pay raise would be a good thing to recognized good achievements. Communicate more with your external employees one on one- not just a monthly form with one line for ideas, suggestions, complaints. You were not able to tell me how long this contract would run.

I have been working at ABBTECH Professional Resources full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation easily increased. Mobility in compensation totally dependent on billing, so if times are good, you can make a lot of money. If you land on a successful team/there is work to do, you will have success if you try. The best thing is you get paid for exactly the hour you work, so if you chose, work/life balance can be very nice.

    Cons

Cut-rate benefits. Majority of staff anticipated to leave within a year.. Nothing for retirement whatsoever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't show favorites. Offer competitive benefits and salary. Spread the wealth.
