    Positive Outlook

I have been working at ABC Unified School District full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

High expectations in regards to student achievement. Most school have a very safe work environment. The salaries are middle of the road.

    Cons

High sense of entitlement amongst parents and students

    Advice to Management

Let your administrators do their job. Very top down organization.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at ABC Unified School District part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Who doesn't love a Monday through Friday job. The work day is done early and you don't work wacky hours. Staff is off all holidays.

    Cons

After being at the company for almost 8 years, employees don't get offered a permanent position and those few permanent employees are only offered 3.5 hours a day, with no benefits. All assignments are temporary and summer work is not guaranteed.

    Advice to Management

There is a lot picking and choosing from Management and not equal opportunity.

    Pros

Working with kids brightens your day!

    Cons

I've been working there for 9 years and went from 13.33/hr to 13.56/hr! No raises in pay!! Will never give you permanent postitions and will keep you part-time so they dont have to give you benefits!

    Advice to Management

    Be fair!

    Positive Outlook

I worked at ABC Unified School District as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

As a mental health intern it was a diverse experience under a well-structured training program for my Social Work graduate field work

    Cons

Interns are filling the gap for a much needed lack of mental health workers - it would be great to see funding to place more mental health workers in the schools where services are so much needed

    Advice to Management

Investment into the Programs that help provide more opportunity for mental health professionals within the district. Also training programs on diversity within the school population to the faculty as the school population is changing socioeconomically and culturally.

    Pros

The benefits are great. The people at the district office are very nice and they have many professional development opportunities.

    Cons

They do not clearly communicate important details to their employees. For instance, all new teachers automatically receive a lay off notice every March without warning. This is quite distressing when you believe you are doing a good job and you receive a letter warning you that your contract may not be renewed.

    Advice to Management

Principals should tell their new teachers about this practice in advance so they do not freak out. The union could do a better job informing new employees of this policy.
