Pros
They will give you a job when no one else will. The work itself is not difficult and in general they don't breathe down your neck.
Cons
If you are prone to self-esteem issues, this might not be the job for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Seriously, I'm going to tell you how to run your business?
Pros
The hours were sufficient and consistent. Treated everyone as a team of people working together to be one big team.
Cons
The management does not really notice the hard work some do and the not so hard work that others do.
Advice to Senior Management
Training your employees shouldn't just be throwing them into the mix. Yes it is effective in time constraints but then you just get work that isn't up to par or better.
Pros
great people/colleagues
faire pay & benifits
career advancement opportunities if you know somone on the top
Cons
No support from management unless you have conections
Advice to Senior Management
More teambuilding and positive feedback is needed for their employees. Stop putting up with the "old timers" that are here that will not learn anything new
Pros
Ability to adjust working hours
Cons
no raises, no benefits, small amount of supervisor involvement
Advice to Senior Management
Talk to your employees
Pros
+Pay was excellent
+Medical was covered
+Full Union support
+100% Job security
+Work load reasonable considering the building sizes.
Cons
-Management needed a bit more tweeking
-Not much else
Advice to Senior Management
Not a bad job so far, keep it up!
Pros
Initial advancement can be very fast and you will immediately be given the opportunity to prove yourself with the company. Mid and low level Managers are given a lot of freedom of decision making.
Cons
There is a major deficit in training and job improvement. Higher level managers don't have time to deal with junior employees and they are often left to fend for themselves.
The sales teams and operations teams are completely seperate. On more than one occasion items were promised to my customer by the sales team that were not possible. IE an online quality management program that was never fully implemented or set up is promised to most sites.
Advice to Senior Management
When you go to implement new technology make sure it actually works BEFORE it is promised and sold to your customers. That marketing brochure is really slick and cool, but it rarely reflects the actual capabilities of our business, and what people at the regional and branch level are trained to use.
Pros
get to see lots of different places
Cons
smell can get ugly and overwhelming
Advice to Senior Management
provide more protective gear, such as masks and gloves
Pros
You have a great deal of freedom as a middle manager to direct your project.
Cons
There is NO training program to speak of. No regular reviews. There is no clear basis for compensation levels.
Advice to Senior Management
There is virtually no training and development program. "Lucky" managers who move up the ladder are put through a trial by fire and week managers are weeded out very quickly.
Pros
Understands that there is life outside of work....however I sometimes wonder if it's not because most of the people have been there a long time and just became compliant with their jobs and don't care any more.
Cons
Uncaring middle management, late nights (though not always coming in early in the morning), no reviews, no caring if you did a good job or not, crappy benefits, being a union company management is too scared to do anything to discipline the hourly employees and simply blame the salary management
Advice to Senior Management
Start caring about your managers, understand that we actually are doing a lot of the work, stop being afraid of the the union and understand that yes we are going to have to terminate some of the hourly employees and if you end up in arbitration, so be it.
