Pros
US mgmt team made most of the calls for business development. the bank has a global reach to conduct business in many parts of the globe - important for multinational companies.
Cons
Although the North American operations were mainly left to sr mgmt in the US, the Dutch did often make the final calls.
Advice to Senior Management
At this pt,it's too late. The Dutch CEO manged to sell the company RBS. RBS hit the skids and is now 80+% owned by the UK government.
Pros
- Good place if you are looking for work-life balance, with no pressure to step beyond your comfort zone
Cons
- Poor HR policies
- Senior management lack competency
- Poor risk management, poor liquidity mangement; poor compliance ; high risk of being a victim in the event of another financial crisis, or if the swap market / money market freezes again!
- too much politicking. ABN Amro has already lost time in 2010 due to re-structuring.
- Management lacks vision
- Poor brand name
Advice to Senior Management
- Stop putting your own people as HODs, who lack experience and technical knowledge

Pros
Extremely friendly team, very cohesive, fun, and energetic people. Pay was good. I was really satisfying to work there.
Cons
One of the downsides at the moment of my employment was the restructuring of the company which left a lot of people unsure as to what their future role would be.
Advice to Senior Management
Management had it very hard, because we were going through a merger. I would recommend a bit more openness on their part.
Pros
good promotion opportunities, individual ideas and creativity are valued
Cons
unclear strategy, very isolated business units, high costs driving down profitability, relatively small international network
Advice to Senior Management
Set clear strategy, cut costs
Pros
range of business lines
possibility to move within company
innovative products
Cons
very political
frequently executives of little ethics promoted, that are full of themselves
starting a lot of businesses without putting right attention to execution
sanctions not necessarily linked to causing of problems
bonus allocation partly very biased/intentional downgrades of whole business units (apart from heads, who give themselves the maximum rating) to cut bonuses
Advice to Senior Management
Live the values that you put on posters and flyers, newsletters etc.
More serious 360 degree feedback + consequences
Fewer initiatives and more attention to the execution

Pros
ABN Amro provides a nice balance between my work and personal life. Hours are short, lots of days off for holidays, and pay is on par with competitors for my job duties. Furthermore, The bank promotes openness and diversity within it's work culture.
Cons
Very limited opportunities for advancement within the company. The bank is mired in bureaucracy and is too conservative for my preference. The computer networks are a joke!
Advice to Senior Management
Please treat your colleagues with respect and maybe you could retain those that are competent in their position. Limit meetings as they are almost a complete waste of time.
Pros
great work life balance. many opportunities for growth and global footprint provided exciting places to work.
Cons
all dutch board and incompetence of senior management.
Advice to Senior Management
shake up the board.
