I have been working at ACCION International full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Organizational culture is great -- hard working, dedicated to the mission, great professional development and career growth opportunities. Accion is a complex organization with lots of opportunity to learn about the microfinance space.

    Cons

Some lack of communication between upper management and staff as well as at all levels between departments. Not a huge con, but the amount of time that it will take to learn about the organization, its various programs, and where your work fits will likely take longer than at many other organizations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on opening communication channels between mc/oc and the rest of the organization and provide more opportunities to engage with each other.

I worked at ACCION International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This was my first job within the nonprofit sector not long after graduating college. Everyone was very competent and I learned a lot from my time there.

    Cons

I left the company to relocate however I wish there were more opportunities for career growth. If presented with an opportunity to work here you would be wise to take it.

I have been working at ACCION International

    Pros

They have a great benefits package and a lot of flexibility to designate your own schedule.

    Cons

The hypocrisy is unbelievable, promoting of the mission and values with so many managers who display a complete lack of respect or passion for the true mission of the organization. There is also not any room for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Practice what your preach.

    Pros

One of the best microfinance institutions in the world, great spirit and deep knowledge of micro finance. There is an opportunity to travel and know many entrepreneurs and also help them get the most from their loans.

    Cons

Too many parcels, some regional managers are too powerful and don´t share experiences with other regions, has missed its north lately.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should sack some regional managers who are hurting the company

I have been working at ACCION International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are very ladi back and depending on the office you are in can be very friendly.
There are lots of training opportunities, elearning resources etc. to help gain exposure to Microfinance theory. The organization is involved in lots of different things so loads of useful information is available for those who learn on their own. However, there is not much structure to training and not much in terms or training.

    Cons

The onboarding process is very vague and can be frustrating. Details are not set out, benefits are not laid out clearly, and everything is quite uncoordinated. The company is also stingy with perdiem for travel, and approved company hotels for technical assistance staff is often bad (think cocroaches, broken showers and shaky beds). But management travels business class and in the nicer hotels. There is not much interaction between field staff in the regions and head office, so there can be a disconnect. Conference calls and organizationwide activities tend to favour those in the Head office time zone. For example nobody from India or China attends the monthly staff meeting because it is late at night for them. It is almost impossible to move from being a head office staff to a field staff or vice versa. Promotions generally do not imply much of an increase in responsibility or pay. There is limited room for career advancement and growth, so many leave after 2 to 3 years to go elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make leadership more accountable, and allow more cross-training. Have better onboarding processes.

I have been working at ACCION International

    Pros

Opportunity to interact with low income people. Very nice to understand how the poor manage to live, opportunities to help people access finance.

    Cons

very poor middle management. Non professional evaluations and activities. Failure to tackle important issues. Friendship and contacts more important than education and experience to advance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is important to drop the recommendation pipeline, is not fair that people without any qualifications is being promoted instead of people with experience and knowledge
