I have been working at ACE Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Have systems in place to work from home with relative ease.
    Fantastic Profit Sharing Plan
    Fabulous 9% 401(k) match

    Cons

Although everyone has the ability, no one is allowed to work form home.
Expected to work and be on call 24/7
Finance and IT hierarchy structure makes little to no sense. This is because ACE is a company that grew through acquisitions, but never made the acquisitions change their systems or financial functions over to centralized departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have worked at ACE for years and have had 5 different managers and Vice Presidents. Stop promoting the inept.

Seemingly never ending business within finance roles...

I have been working at ACE Group full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

If you are experienced, you may be able to land a good starting base salary. Extremely nice people.

    Cons

Company has no commitment to flexibility. Indeed some groups have leadership that is wise enough to realize this increasing trend, due to how much available research shows the benefits companies yield.
Until Ace has a major C level regime change, the company will not be considered for inclusion within a Fortune 100 top employer list, Business Week Top 100, etc.

IT infrastructure strategy & internal applications integration is embarrassing. Seemingly everything is outsourced as if the company was a start-up....but of course it is not.

    Poor implementation of PeopleSoft.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) The CEO needs to stop cutting IT budget so Ace can get away from using so many outsourced services, ASAP.
    2) Utilize research from reputable sources and implement a company wide commitment to workplace flexibility.
    3) If the open work space concept is not considered a mistake on the 10th floor of 510, then you must commit to changing all floors within both Philly buildings....otherwise, it is not fair for those on the 10th floor of 510 to not have assigned seats and have to deal with the added frustration that comes with the increased volume pretty much everything that takes place on the floor.

Ace has strong potential to be an excellent employer for ALL employees, not just those in certain departments lucky enough to have strong leadership. Your insurance people and SME are not the entirety of the company, consider everyone....

    Pros

Very collaborative team, extensive support services. Internal growth/movement promoted.

    Cons

Helpdesk is terrible. You'll file an urgent issue whi they will get back to you 3 weeks later. Benefits also seem a little pricey.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please get rid of the current helpdesk. Keep supporting your business in the same way!

    Pros

Training is great and one on one basis. Time off is usually granted with little push back, benefits and 401k are amazing.

    Cons

Thankless position. Currently in a pooling. No first hand interactions with underwriting staff. Moving up is tough unless you know someone in the industry.

I worked at ACE Group as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

Good people to work with, they really value the employee. Big company benefits, with the feel of a smaller company. I really enjoyed my time at ACE and learned a lot.

    Cons

Company can be unorganized at times. Take more time on the front end to develop ideas to prevent unnecessary rework on the back end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest time in developing the internship program.

I worked at ACE Group as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Very laid back company culture which eventually promoted better working standards. Everyone I met at this company was very friendly.

    Cons

Though my job had a lot of potential, and I feel I could have learned a lot in my internship there, I eventually could not and this was highly disappointing. Also, I was asked during the interview if I could drive, I said I could, and later I found out I was expected to visit a different state every so often, though I was not told this beforehand.

    Pros

Innovative global company. Uses a tool that allows for collaboration across all business units, and geographies. Very stable financially.

    Cons

Local underwriting management does not trust employees enough. Almost all decisions go through one person and work gets bottlenecks, causing delays and loss of business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Change local underwriting management.
