    Pros

There are many talented individuals who are willing to help you learn if you seek them out. Company experience will vary based on the division you are interested in.

    Cons

Salary is below the average for comparable analysts. Some areas lend themselves better to further career development than other areas of the company.

    Pros

Company is doing extremely well and management is thinking on its feet, generally, and anticipating the next move. Overall a smart company. CEO knows what he is talking about, and that's nice.

    Cons

Cheap. Everything needs to be done on a shoestring, including hiring and compensating talent. Compensation is not great. Bonus targets are just that: targets. Very rare to meet someone who gets his/her target. Even when company keeps beating its financial targets, the rewards are not "sprinkled around". Very demanding schedules, sometimes unreasonably so. A little "stuck" in underwriting thinking, which stifles other ways of growing profitably.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting successful insurance technicians (mostly underwriters) to general management positions: many are not cut out for the additional responsibilities. For top management: if that's even possible, acquire some true polish and genuine bedside manners - you can fake it to the outside world but employees know better and resent it to the point that it makes them quit!

    Pros

The atmosphere of the office is great, everyone there is wonderful and willing to help. Lots of resources, learning opportunities and great flexibility. Good management in place to make work effective, and have competent people in place.

    Cons

Busy time is busy time, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel and they work hard to even the workload and make it manageable.

    Pros

Cannot think of one pro for this organization

    Cons

They are stuck in the 1980's! Mind set so far behind the times it is amazing they have computers on desks. It is the old boys club and not a team environment. Very disheartening

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get with the times! Get your head out of the sand and realize that your so mentally behind the times in what a work environment should be

    Clueless Technology Management

    Pros

A challenging and financially rewarding place to work. If you are aggressive and deliver results you will move up. The 401k plan is outstanding for employees that have been around since 2006, but very average for newer hires.

    Cons

This review pertains specifically to the IT organization. The Leadership consists of an absolutely clueless group of dinosaurs who have no business guiding a major F500 organization's Technical Vision. Many of them have no background in Technology, so not only are they not respected by the people that work for them, but the decisions they make have horrendous consequences for the organization. Case in point... In response to the Great Recession, the organization decided to outsource development jobs to reduce development costs. The result has been paralytic. The simplest of projects take 2-3 times longer and cost more than they did before. The vendors they selected can't deliver developers, so they are forced to go on the market to find the priciest consultants available. Result: more expense.. More stakeholder dissatisfaction... Longer development timelines.
Second... To reduce operating costs, they decided to go to an open office concept. Their idea of open office is to not have assigned seats.. In a floor with only available seating for 80% of the staff. The result .. As you may imagine is chaos. Result: staff working from home, longer timelines, stakeholder dissatisfaction.

Is it any wonder that staff are unhappy and the Business Stakeholders view IT as the place where projects go to die?

It's never a good sign when the CIO doesn't even know how to create a PowerPoint presentation. I'll maintain his COBOL skills are of little use in 2014, if he can't relate with his staff nor understand the devastating consequences of the choices he's made for the organization are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evan... It's time to view technology as a business differentiator and not as an operating expense. You can't be happy with the state of Technology at ACE. Get rid of Technical Leadership that have absolutely no clue how to run an IT Organization. Trim the fat.
