I worked at ACE as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

This internship was a great opportunity. I worked on a series of environmental projects throughout the state of California. I did tree chainsawing, weeding, built cow fences to prevent overgrazing on animals behalf, built roadblocks to conserve vegetation in mountains, built and maintained trails for hikers and I also got to do drains and work with rock work. This internship allows you to enter the world of environmentalism and you complete the internship rich in green terminology and nature knowledge. It's tough i'm not going to deny it. You can do 10 hour days out in the hot sun working with rocks or you might have to hike 5 miles in to your work area, cArrying heavy tools. You will probably see wild animals (black bears, snakes (rosy boas, rattle), bob cats, wild turkeys, wild horses, bunnies, wild deer, exotic birds and others. The best part is that you get to see California's most beautiful nature spots, anything from the Sierra Nevada's to Mt Shasta to Sequoia National Forest. The landscapes you are able to visit are drop dead gorgeous. You also get the opportunity to work with international volunteers from Spain, Germany, Holland, the UK, Korea, Denmark and many other countries. You work with hardworking, down to earth, strong people. Administration is personable and resourceful, especially Jim Laske the program manager, he's helpful and kind. You also receive an Education award at the end of your commitment. You get bi weekly stipends and food and housing are provided throughout internship. Wonderful opportunity for any person, any major, anyone. You will come out a better, more well rounded person. Especially those folks in the green and agriculture field, there's a lot of chance for them to network and move up in this conservation field. P.S you also work with people from all 50 states of the U.S! Great great program. If you are overweight, you will lose weight because this internship is all physical labor. Your stamina and endurance improve, you get into shape.

You're out in the field getting dirty, sweaty on your hands and knees, sleeping in tents, sometime you go 7 days or more without a shower, you dig a latrine to dispose of waste, you have to put your food into bear canisters, you become proficient at front and back country camping. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL, of you like nature and all it has to offer- this right here is for you. Tough and challenging but so fulfilling and rewarding.

    Cons

None! Or actually, I wish management raised the pay. And also pay volunteers, they work extremely hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase interns pay. Asap.
