I have been working at ACOG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at ACOG has given me increased professional development opportunities vs. past employers. The opportunity to work with a team of people who are passionate about improving healthcare for all women with a realistic view of the world and how to get things done. Having a supervisor that shares my values and their personal values are unwavering and consistent.

    Cons

Dysfunctional teams, organization is still trying to destroy silos between divisions. Hearing the phrase "We've always done it this way." is another distressing trend. Finally, agreements take a great deal of work and some managers send contradictory messages to staff. People who were working successfully across departments successfully will suddenly hit a wall.

    Advice to Management

Provide clear, structured and consistent direction to staff. Managers need to learn how to hear everyone, find areas of agreement and cut-off discussions when timing requires a decision. Also know that structure in meetings and processes would go far and is not constraining.

I worked at ACOG full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Women's health is a great cause to work on

    Cons

Had a horrible manager who drove out 8+ employees in only 2 years. They had no respect for their employees. Complaints to HR accomplished nothing. Upper management needs to respect the reports of employees if they want to keep any talent. Salaries are low and benefits only OK. Benefits are not consistently applied - some departments seemed to rarely have staff in the office, while others wouldn't allow teleworking at all.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at ACOG full-time

    Pros

They have decent benefits. However, some benefits like flex time and telework schedules aren't allowed in every department.

    Cons

Really low morale. I don't know a single person that works here that can say they love their job. Even though the benefits are decent, what's the point if everyone is miserable?

ACOG is a good place to work if you are satisfied with not being promoted.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at ACOG full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. Health care and 401K are good. Finally implemented tuition reimbursement. Flexible spending accounts available. Parking and travel subsidies available.

    Cons

Pay is low and work environment is oppressive. Promotions are few. More new hires than promotions from within.

    Advice to Management

Consider promoting seasoned staff. Staff with experience in the company may be more valuable that having to train new hires. Reward staff for hard work.

    Pros

Benefits and salaries are good. 35 hour work week and most are allowed flex work schedules.

    Cons

Treatment (flex schedules, salary/bonuses) vary greatly between departments. Most departments are very supportive and generous. Groups work in 'silos' with little or no communication.

    Advice to Management

    Consistency and communication.

    Work atmosphere at ACOG

    Pros

Very easy environment to work in. Upper management stays close with all of the employees and is generous in terms of work load, time off, etc.

    Cons

There is very little room for advancement within the company, because the majority of the higher positions require a medical degree in the field.

    Advice to Management

With the recent approval of a for-profit section of the company, new positions should be explored for current employees to move into.
