Pros
plenty of room for initiative
Cons
lack of collaboration, too many employees, slow decision making process, HR, IT competencies, no career opportunities
Pros
Good working environment. Good benefits.
Cons
There is no potential for promotion. Too much office politics.
Pros
Aegon has great benefits in terms of time off and medical insurance. They rival most of the other companies in Cedar Rapids on this feature.
Cons
Aegon is not the place to work if you want to receive fair compensation or if you prefer to be treated as an adult. They also have terrible measurements and standards in place for determining an employee's value and worth.
Advice to Senior Management
Most of your employees are valuable; you should treat them as such. The only reason you don't have more people walking out the door is due to the poor economy.
Pros
Wonderful, intelligent employees, great culture.
Cons
International company who decided to downsize and basically eliminate the vast majority of jobs in the Louisville area.
Pros
The benefits are good, nice cafeteria and work location.
Cons
I was explicitly told, "Fake being perky or you'll be written up" in a performance review with my Team Lead. If you were a quiet introvert (like me), you had to go out of your shell or get in trouble. Someone actually complained to my Lead because I only smiled at them in the hallway instead of verbally saying "good morning." Really?
They always hired outside the company for management positions in the Licensing Department. There was no opportunity for advancement; they would dangle a "promotion" (no more money, just a title) in front of you like a carrot. Then at your next one-on-one, they'd say "work on A and B to get this promotion." Then at the next one-on-one, it's "ok now work on C and D." You were never good enough.
They also value personality and friendliness over whether you could competently do the job. I eventually left because an immature coworker was inciting drama and making fun of me on a daily basis, often right to my face, and management did nothing. The last I heard, he'd been promoted to a senior position on the team.
The quality control process is a joke. With 80+ decision points to make on one piece of processing, if you made even one error, the item was "failed." They were told over and over again by every single new person to the team that using "failed" was detrimental to the well being and morale of the employees, and they didn't care. They told us that it would not ever be changed. QA failed work if they didn't like you, and passed work from people that they were buddies with. Too many failed pieces of work and you were disciplined. I had a 96% success rate - the highest on the team - and yet I was never promoted because I'm a quiet person and other people misread me as rude or stuck up. My manager never went to bat for me.
Advice to Senior Management
Accept differences in your employees, especially about personalities. Get to know your employees and what motivates them. I value recognition for hard work, not money or titles. I never got it. Honor those who do good work, not just those who are friendly and who act happy all the time.
Change the QA system so that work isn't "failed" back to processors because it's demeaning and brings morale down. Try processing for a while and having your job depend on how well you get along with the QA team, and you'll see what it's like.
Pros
Employee friendly, Strong HR,Work culture
Cons
Too much work pressure,no time management
Advice to Senior Management
Consider all the level for success
Pros
Good health benefits, friendly work place, on site daycare facilities, wide variety of job duties and space for advancement.
Cons
Depending upon department, supervisory experience may vary greatly. If you are in a good department, there will be many opportunities to advance.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work.
Pros
Startup company hence good exposure. Started with an impact in the market.
Cons
Too aggressive and wants immediate results without enough long term strategic focus.
Advice to Senior Management
"The best leaders inspire by example. When thats not an option, brute intimidation works pretty well, too..!!" This is the current philosophy which needs to change immediately if you want to build a world class company.
