I worked at AGC America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Benefits were good.
The Associates were caring, hardworking, and made the job a pleasurable experience.

    Cons

Hot Hot Hot working environment. Could reach 130 degrees in some parts of the plant in summer. Not for the wimpy or whiny.
Safety Dept. always coming up with senseless rules and procedures to justify their jobs. She had no idea how the jobs were performed but was always doling out "procedures" to make them "safer" Company wide joke among those on the floor was next step would be bubble wrap uniforms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just assume your departments are being handled properly.

    Pros

Benefits are good, some bonus available, steady work.

    Cons

Thankless job, no advancement above specific operation environment, pay is in the bottom 10% for similar jobs in tharea.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit hiring outside of the company, to fill management jobs. Listen to anyone who has been employed more than a year. Learn to keep promises. Finish projects, don't start new one to cover up deficiencies..

    I worked at AGC America

    Pros

If interested in continuing America's construction path, good place to network with large firms
Convenient location in central Arlington VA

    Cons

No room for growth, training or creativity
    Organization lacks perspective on industry
    Many managers are unqualified

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many "managers" have no experience or ability to manage
Disparaging comments from middle-managers (regularly overheard ridiculing entry-level staff) made working at AGC a chore

    I worked at AGC America

    Pros

    Good Pay
    Great Benefits
Ability to get promoted if you are willing to work hard
Nice employee dinner once a year in the summer
Great hard working associates to work with

    Cons

Upper Management is more concerned with fictitious productions numbers versus quality of the product they are making.
Those that cheat on their production numbers are rewarded versus those that are truly working very hard to produce a quality product and give a true perception of what the line is doing.
Got tired of always being compared to those that are known to fudge numbers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go below the management level when you want to know what is really happening on the lines. The associates and team leaders are your best source for fixing the problems that occur there. There is a large disconnect between management and the floor associates. They want to know the truth when things are bad. Rally the troops that is what they are there for.

I have been working at AGC America

    Pros

The work environment is okay I guess. The people can be good to work with but its the structure of the company and the lack of upward mobility. Also, management is dominated by caucasians while minorities seem to get stuck at the middle. There is a lot of office politics, more so than other places where I've worked so it makes it seem that promotability is based more on how you play the game rather than how hard you work or the quality of work you produce. AGC America should structure their ranking system and make it more systemized. The end.

    Cons

I feel trapped at this company.
