    Pros

Incredible recruitment means that your co-workers will be impressive and inspirational. Company has strong start-up values great entry point for a fresh grad. Extremely transparency makes employees feel like stakeholders.

    Cons

Extremely high turnover makes employees nervous about retention. Management plays favorites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It appears that management's catch-all solution is to hire new employees to gain insight about product. This strategy is a bit short-sighted.

I have been working at AHAlife full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Start up environment. Open culture. After hours events . 40% Employee discount on site products.

    Cons

CTO doesnt know what he's doing. Lots of promise, lots of talk. Management is so toxic towards the employees. Management likes to cut corners, and it shows. Company is not profitable, they make so little profit a month (most months are negative gross) They laid off 20people at the beginning of the year because they "didnt need you anymore" even if you've been there for 2 years, they dont care. STAY AWAY. THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER OPPORTUNITIES OUT THERE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't push your workers to work overtime and weekends to meet a deadline and then don't even use the new feature/product.

I have been working at AHAlife full-time

    Pros

    • great, hip office location (Bond Street) - near SoHo and the Bowery

    Cons

    • CEO and CTO is dating each other which means no proper oversight of work
    • No analytical viewpoint of marketplace and industry
    • Management has no experience in luxury AND no experience in eCommerce
    • More interested in revenue vs. profitability
    • More interested in getting new funding vs. building a sustainable, profitable business
    • *** WARNING: they may take the next round of funding (aka sell the company) with a low-grade tech product
    • *** DO NOT FUND OR BUY THIS COMPANY ***

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire good professionals and get out of their way.
Hire proper management with proven experience.

    Pros

Colleagues are very hard working and smart. Free breakfast monday. Free lunch on weds. Drinking after hours on thurs.

    Cons

Terrible Management. Lack of appreciation and support for the working grunts. Management has inability to accept other point of views, CEO's word is god and CTO can't doing anything because they are dating.
Very high turnover due to all of this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't date each other. Keep your personal life out of work.

    I worked at AHAlife

    Pros

Free Lunch on Wednesdays, Swedish Happy Hour on Thursdays. Filled with very diverse young, motivated, birght, hard working people. Great work location. Free food and drinks. A great place to gain various experience.

    Cons

A popularity contest indeed like back in high school. The highest turnovers of any companies seen to date.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know and really listen to your employees, develop personal relationships, and treat them with great respect much better. Identify and emphasize what the values are that make the company a great place. It seemed no one in the company knew what the values were of the company at all.

    Cons

Dishonest culture and President, Shauna Mei lacks experience and ability to execute. No background in fashion or design, but claims to.

    Pros

    Love the Bond Street location
Loft / kitchen homey type location
HR rep (at the time) was extremely sweet and professional
Great office equipment / Apple equipment

    Cons

For someone that went to MIT, my interactions with the founder, Shauna left me largely unimpressed. She shares her enthusiasm, but does not really have much to say as far as strategy or execution. As such, people are kind of floating in the wind. The fact they redesign their website every other month is a key indicator that something is amiss.
Here's a typical conversation with someone in Product:
"I don't feel this is right"
    "Why?"
    "I don't know."
    "Oh."
    It's pretty sad.
Selling luxury goods is pretty damn boring

    I worked at AHAlife full-time

    Pros

Lots of smart and motivated people who want to make a difference. Cool products. Definite market opportunity. Great location on Bond street.

    Cons

Toxic company culture, despite the great people. Senior management does not communicate well. Work often gets repeated and redone. Wasteful and unnecessary spending in the past. Lots of churn -- people get hired and fired reality-show style, literally days after being hired sometimes. Everything is high priority, so nothing is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being arrogant. Treat the people who work for you with respect. Recognize everybody here wants the company to succeed. Be mindful that your personal relationships with each other dramatically impact the effectiveness of the work environment.

    Worst place to work for

    I worked at AHAlife

    Pros

Free lunch Wednesday and good location

    Cons

The finance boss is a terrible emotional older lady. The place is disorganized and recently laid of half the company. The vibe is young and immature.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit.

    Pros

great place to learn, pick up new skill sets and improve your resume to jump ahead in a different role & company in the future

    Cons

lacks organization, don't plan on staying here for long; most people either get cut before they reach 1 year or quit soon thereafter.
