open up the promotion process for a particular employee.
Pros
AIG has at least 60 countries reporting in different currencies, so you need a way to facilitate how you will get all of the 'data' into the system which is intended to compute reserves. It is possible to do it, and in the end of the quarter, have it all come out of the system into dollars. So I thought that was excellent because you don't want to have Euros mixed up with Yen and not have a way to separate them. In fact, there were about 16 modifications to enter the system, including how you get into it.
Also, some of the poeple at the company are very nice and stop by when ever you are there, whereas others don't bother to do that.
I have calculated statutory, tax and GAAP reserves for at least 15 years or more. I really like it. I've calculated them for every product in the U.S. and a lot of countries, both at AIG and at PolySystems.
Cons
I was a consultant which I thought meant after six or 7 months I would be hired full time. However, at that time, I think some of the upper level of people in the company had heard that trouble was coming and they just told me I was to leave in two weeks.
I also felt like several of the people I knew from nine years before I went there didn't talk too me too much because I wasn't permanent.
Pros
The company provided great benefits to employees.
Cons
AIG should bring back the Management In Training program.
Pros
The company provided great benefits to employees and their spouse, including a matching 401k, generous paid vacation and annual bonuses.
Cons
The downside of working at AIG is being labeled for providing feedback to management after a performance review. Employees are expected to agree with performance reviews and not speak up or disagree with the feedback provided.
Advice to Senior Management
AIG should bring back the Management In Training program. Employees newly promoted into management should not be coached or mentored by managers that do not have a formal education or one that did not complete the MIT program.
Pros
AIG is a good fit if you're looking for a financial services career but still want to see your family.
Cons
The culture is very top down, and communication from the top can be lacking. I've seen some surprising cronyism in some strategic enterprise software decisions, but by and large it's a good organization. Clearly there were problems with the former executive management in the recent past, having let the FP division take down the whole corp, but the great bulk of the remainder of the corp. was always profitable.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more discerning in what corporate it mandates are really beneficial, and move towards a more agile IT culture as possible.
Pros
The office environment was very professional and coworkers were intelligent and cooperative.
Cons
Daily work can get mundane.
Pros
still have a minimum degree of freedom if you are good at the job
Cons
Managemnt has lack of technical knowledge on their job.
A department responsible of checking compliance while in breach of employment law in the UK
Management failed to treat staff fairly
Pros
Larget and stable company. matched 401k and a rare employee pension system plus other benefits. It's a Ok place to work in general.
Cons
virtually no career advancement. the salary increase was practically non exististent as was told i should feel lucky that I still had a job.
Advice to Senior Management
Company culture does not value employees as assets and are viewed and cost center. Bringing employees together and empower them is very important to success to company
Pros
Let me think about somethin gpositive.
Job & Compensation offer letters may look very appealing to attract you and get you on-board; but once you are in,....HR and senior leadership do not honor what has been offered. Always some excuses as why salaries won't be increased, bonuses or RSU not given.
Cons
AIG is not a results driven culture - It is about Tenure.
AIG's HR thinking and approach - they make you fill out a weekly hours sheet - like punching cards!
Meritocracy, Accountability and Performance Driven is not part of their Corporate Culture
Advice to Senior Management
HR and Senior Leaders; Deliver what you offer & promise!! (re: written in job & compensation letter)
Pros
Your learn a lot, but only if you self motivator
Cons
Management can care less about your performance, no incentive waht so ever. To much politics.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciation is the key.
