Before the blow up you could learn quite a bit. Was very entrepreneurial to a point.
Cons
AIG has not treated me and other well after we were terminated. Often decisions about how to treat customers are driven by profit and not what is the right thing to do.
Advice to Senior Management
Take this opportunity of reorganization to build a more customer centric and employee centric firm
Pros
good benefits - medical/life/pension etc.
strong and solid image. The location is convinient and very easy to get to as a commuter.
Cons
I havent experienced any negative aspect while working for AIG. Although commuting to this location is easy, the cost is a little high.
Advice to Senior Management
I think AIG's talent pool with the management ranks has been instrumental to AIG's growth during these tough economic times.
Pros
good benefits - medical/life/pension etc.
strong image (which is now destroyed of course!0
Cons
poor base pay/bonus - lack of training - lack of strategic thinking
Advice to Senior Management
spend less time thinking about short term expense savings and more time thinking about your key people and the long term goals
Pros
Good company to start out with as a foundation, but once you get some competence, move on. Very stiff culture.
Cons
Once you get some experience, it's not the best place to stay. Everyone is out for themselves. Brown-nosers do well.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to give back and respect your employees. They will want to work there and be motivated to help you meet your goals.
Pros
Feels like a small company
Senior management is friendly and on a first-name basis
They are very good at what they do for their advisors
Cons
Very disorganized internal management
Many disparate factions
No clear goals, making it difficult to plan
Instability
Incredible turnover of mid to upper management
Advice to Senior Management
Take better care when hiring upper management to make sure they are a proper fit and not a quick fix.
