    Pros

-A great place to work as an intern and gain relative hands-on experience and knowledge.
-Above-average wages for an engineering intern.
-No physical work involved, but you will learn a lot!

    Cons

-The place is dirty inside and out. It's just not a good environment to work in.
-The supervisors sometimes seem to view the intern's work as less important, so it's hard to get any help. I have been waiting for months for my original project to be installed.
-Supervisors will sometimes hand down paperwork to the intern that they don't want to deal with.
-If you break safety rules, you are at risk of getting fired.
-I have experienced co-workers that are very vulgar and offensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are way too close-minded sometimes about things such as safety regulations.
Way too many employees are overworked.

    Pros

Pay and benefits were fairly decent, especially for the area.

    Cons

Treat people poorly, hourly and salary. Plant manager is an arrogant, obnoxious person with no people skills or respect for others. The most unprofessional manager I have ever been around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that your employees are more than worker bees, they are people with families and issues just like you. Stop the "screw the hourly" mentality and work together.

    Pros

The coworkers are mostly great. The pay was pretty good. Every day proved to have new challenges, and it was personally rewarding to rise to the occasion. The company strives for a safe work environment.

    Cons

The hours are long and work can be difficult. The plant is a very dirty and dangerous place, despite the safety regulations. The safety rules are so stringent that it is almost a certainty you will break one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the office and look around.

Glass wall, glass ceiling, unable to envision a changing and growing future.

    Pros

Flat management structure allows talented individuals freedom to explore new ideas. Many individuals within the lower to mid management level of the company are quite capable.

    Cons

New ideas are not embraced or rewarded. Must quietly develop yourself and unfortunately move on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace diverse education and business background; reward diverse thinking. Be honest and open with all employees regarding job openings. Allow decision making at the proper level without continual executive intervention or override.

    Pros

Good place to get a name on your resume first after college.

    Cons

The hourly is union, so they are lazy, hostile, and egotistic. Also due to the union, you will not be working with anything directly, so you won't learn much. I suggest leaving no later than 2 years if you work with hourly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should have settled for nothing less than the complete dissolution of the union. They are destroying your company. That is why Nucor is doing so much better.

    Pros

Money is decent and they give tickets to ciderpoint.

    Cons

Ridiculous safety rules resulting in no job security, bias in promotion, in your face disrespect by supervisors, frequent suspensions leading to loss of income, future health risk from inhaling coolant, weld fumes, generally horrible place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Say what you mean and mean what you say. Warn employees what to expect in term of impossible to reach safety standards.

    Pros

Good pay for not having a college degree

    Cons

Harsh environment, shift work, employees input not valued

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With a mature workforce ( average 20+ years) there is a lot of experience to draw from. Unfortunately because of the finger pointing atmosphere, many are afraid to try new ideas that may help the company. There is always the threat of "corrective action" if something is done wrong or if a mistake is made
