Pros
You are constantly busy and do not get bored. It is very physical work so you stay in shape.
Cons
Very hard work and of course you are dealing with the public.
Pros
Pay and benefits, nothing else.
Cons
The wear you out. They ask more of you as your salary gets smaller.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of you store managers and remember they have families also.
Pros
The pay is very competitive.
Cons
Positive feedback would help in growing with the company.
Advice to Senior Management
A well-done would be welcomed.
Pros
The store manager is good. He gives time off for personal life and works around schedules..i.e. school, family, etc. Benefits are good. Hourly wage is decent.
Cons
There never seems to be enough people working at the store at one time. We are always told that sales aren't enough to have more employees working. It's hard to keep up with all that is asked, i.e...good customer service, cleanliness, stocking, etc. Sometimes it is only one cashier and one shift manager. Trust me...it's a lot of work for the money.
Advice to Senior Management
I think more focus on providing good customer service and a pleasant shopping experience, rather than did you sling the 45 items per minute into the shopping cart.
Pros
the money and benefits are nice at first and the customer are the greatest. there is always work so never a dull moment
Cons
you spend your life around the store, sick days are a joke, with the amount of employees you have its you or no one!! they are always pushing you with no rewards for the cashiers or shift managers. we are the face of the store and when we make the customer happy the dm or manager gets rewarded!!
Advice to Senior Management
this is the perfect job for single people with no children and who or not interested in having a family
Pros
The pay is great and you get a car. You also get great benefits. This is really the only reason people work at ALDI. For most people, it is not enough to make them stay.
Cons
Labor intensive. You do the same thing every day and all the time. You do not use your brain. The leadership is just terrible and very egotistical.
Advice to Senior Management
I am not sure where to even begin. If you work or have worked at the Mt Juliet Division, you know that there are some real issues with top management. There are some big dogs there who think they are the coolest thing since sliced bread.
Pros
The DM internship was very structured and thorough. I saw all aspects of the DM job and learned a lot about how Aldi operates. DM's work independently and make a lot of decisions. Great flexibility as far as hours are concerned, but overall the hours are still very long. Great people at the store level who welcomed me with open arms. Solid business model from a customer's perspective but behind technologically. The intern pay is great and so is the DM pay, however, not enough for me to give up my life.
Cons
Very intense work environment and extreme sense of urgency. Very long hours, many are spent driving from one store to the next. I wouldn't recommend the real DM job to anyone who wants to spend time with his or her family. Some female DM's with kids have full time nannies to get it all done. Productivity is king which often hurts store employees who work extremely hard. People who don't want to "live" at Aldi are labeled as lazy. The atmosphere is very rigid and doesn't make sense at all. Many store employees are just working at Aldi for the money and benefits. Young DM's lack leadership skills. Very few DM's are over 40 due to the high burnout rate (I only saw 2).
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your store employees and value their input. Allow DM's to have a life ( flexibility is not enough if you can't possibly fit the workload in a 50 hour week).
Pros
There are a lot of career oportunities
Cons
The officers are not so open in new ideas
Advice to Senior Management
Maybe more positive and multiplicative thinking will help
Pros
Benefit package, co-workers, flexibility of position, time off, diversity in job description, flat organizational structure
Cons
Hours, lack of feedback, few promotional opportunities
Pros
Pay and Benefits
Paid Holidays
Vacation Time
Cons
No opportunities for advancement, regardless of how well your store is run or how outstanding your numbers. After reading many of these reviews, it is obvious that there is a huge gap between store level and upper management. I, too, can vouch for that. In the constant battle of micromanaging, and sometimes clueless DMs, valuable time is taken from the store for daily operational issues.
The work also becomes monotonous as the only challenges are trying not to drop dead from exhaustion. Even though the time off is acceptable, you are too exhausted to enjoy it.
Advice to Senior Management
I realize I'm peeing in the wind on this, but most companies do promote from within. My belief is that it only benefits the company to promote all of it's best and brightest employees. Although, at this point, I've seen enough...I wouldn't want it.
