Pros
Your pay is great!!!!!Bonous wonderful!!!!! Health Benifits can't complain. Very diverse work enviorment. Attendance policy very fair.Free cell phone servive helps, one less bill to pay. 401k good. Did I mention they pay is wonderful. lol
Cons
you are worked like a slave. you are micro managed to theTee. Management thinks they are the alltel gods . There is so much goossip and drama in the call ceneters. I mean can I just come to work and do my job for once. Remember that old motto thecustomer is always right. Well alltel lives by that. We all know there are times when the customer is just wrong. But dont ever say it. Because you will be labled as a non team player. Ive seen it happen to others over the past 7 years. Learn how to be the best actor you can be. expect to put on the best performance you have ever had. You will be the next grammy winner. "oh Mr Customer I am soooooooooooo sorry to hear that. Ill be more than happy to fix it.".
Advice to Senior Management
Lead by by example. Practice what you preach. Be consistent. Be knowledgable about policys. Leave your personal life at the door!!!!
Pros
decent place to start, complimentary service for family, pay well for entry level, health benefits exceed those of many other companies, if you can be at the right place at the right time then you can move up. doesn't require massive education to sell phones but the commission is your primary source of revenue, caps for sales are very high, vacation benefits are pretty solid for entry level, merger with att should be helpful for sales in these markets existing in fairly isolated areas. improving network capacity all the time, no data caps like some other providers, clear billing issues
Cons
decent place to start, do not recognize time of service seem to focus on current trends even though policies have not been updated to reflect this. more likely to hear about company changes in media than from your superiors expect to move slowly, supervisors must approve all moves before moving on regardless, hr does not forward anything on unless your direct supervisor gives the ok, long hours are the norm, constant micromanagement about petty things out of your control, many back office responsibilities that do not help your commission, heavy favoritism by management towards drones but hey this is corporate america
Advice to Senior Management
communicate to all levels first, not after information is widely misinterpreted
Pros
In IT, the pay is excellent and there are many opportunities for advancement. The work is interesting, and most of the people are committed, good workers. Training is usually readily available. Good work is rewarded. Management seems to be cooperative when family issues come up. Telecommuting is available, which actaully allows one to get more work done.
Cons
With downsizing over the years, people have been taking on more work. Sometimes it's too much, and the hours can be very long. During an implementation, it's not unheard of to work an 80 hour week. Meetings are often over-used, and not always well organized.
Advice to Senior Management
More employees are needed to cover all the work. Not jsut overseas contractors who don't really have a stake in the final project
Pros
Great coworkers, good pay and benefits.
Cons
Incompetent middle management, upper management that has never been on the front lines, Western Wireless and former WW employees that have refused to get on board with Alltel and who will most likely refuse to get on board with Verizon!!!!, poor decision making on the part of some management. Little to no information regarding the merger. Making "quiet" exits of people that have worked there for years that are being laid off so as to not disturb the culture in LR instead of being honest that people are being laid off each week.
Advice to Senior Management
Know the job of who you are managing and make better promotion decisions.
Pros
Alltel truly ttried to win in the marketplace. In early years, that at times led to short-sighted decisions but after senior management eventually realized that focusing on customer satisfaction was crucial. From that point on (2004), we became a different, innovative company. The company also then invested heavily in its people flying 3,000 managers (about 15% of the workforce) to Little Rock each year to hear directly from the CEO about the keys for success for the upcoming year.
Cons
Without a national footprint of our own, we were always at risk of being bought out. I'm glad we made it as long as we did.
Advice to Senior Management
When Sprint fails, take the helm at let's take another run at the big two. It'll be fun.
Pros
Commitment to core values. Lot of growth opportunities and learning that one can get working here. People who you work along with are very friendly and caring. Middle management is always willing to listen, help and act per your needs. Senior management has driven the company to top position in terms of growth and customer satisfaction, value to share-holders. They have always lead by example and always communicated goals top-down to all levels.
Cons
Not as aggressive in launching innovative / strategic products.
Advice to Senior Management
You have done a fantastic job in all the growth that Alltel has seen and done.
Pros
Encouragement of professional growth and opportunities to advance and gain experience in a variety of functional areas. I appreciated the challenges and opportunties to learn. In addition, I always felt like I was treated with respect and felt that the work environment was very positive. Teamwork was encouraged. Training was readily available and encouraged for all departments.
Cons
Bureaucratic structure with roadblocks that hamper productivity, at times. The organizational structure and approval processes made accomplishing tasks a slow process. Also, the presence of politics was prevalent within some departments.
Advice to Senior Management
My main piece of feedback would be for management to promote more open feedback from varous levels within the company.
Pros
Great Pay, you can create your own success if you work hard enough and build lasting relationships
Cons
No wiggle room from Black and White. As in any corporation, your upper management group are so focused on what will get them ahead or prevent them from loosing their job, they are more willing to play it safe for thei career than to take a chance and go agains the tide. Those leaders don't always do the right thing because they are looking out for number 1 rather than the overall good of the employees who work so hard for them.
Advice to Senior Management
DEpends on what level of management I believe that executive management in LIttle Rock does a phenominal job, however the middle management from regional and president of retail management need to be more willing to take a risk and do what is right. Too many people walk around scared of loosing their job and act based on that fear rather than the ability to grow the business
Pros
Alltel is a fortune 251 company that kind of experience can be invaluable for future endeavors. There are a lot of established processes and that allow for a more efficient governance of business application thereby increasing ROI, minimizing duplication of efforts and streamlining efforts.
Cons
Alltel is very much a "good 'ol boy" type company and if you're not in the right 'click', it can be very tough to get ahead. Lack of career path and career development is very frustrating.
Advice to Senior Management
include senior and consultant level employees in leadership development and provide people with career paths and opportunities to grow.
Pros
With a solid sales background this job will be a breeze for you. There is awesome potential for you to make alot of money at a young age without a degree or while you get yours. Management positions seemed to be simple to figure out and it usually becomes a family enviornment with your coworkers. Health care is most certainly there along with retirement and also numerous positions outside of sales as well.
Cons
You see ALL levels of society meaning that when you are dealing with phones one customer could be a doctor and the next could be a bum that wants to argue about a $.10 charge on his bill that he didn't deserve.
Advice to Senior Management
Implement more feedback into policies
