Competitive compensation, people are valued, but large company processes can be cumbersome.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat people. Competitive compensation and benefits. Emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility. Promotion from within.

ConsLarge company processes and politics. Movement towards centralized management takes decisions away from the "boots on the ground" and policies often disconnected from practicality.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow for distributed control over local business decisions, and subsequent accountability for those decisions. Currently, an employee could fail at objectives, but easily blame the internal forces (from management) that prevent individual objective success. Performance targets are constantly moving which is difficult.

Large projects where you can gain visibility. Great folks

ProsTechnically knowledgeable teams, mostly relaxed work atmosphere and good opportunity to gain experience. Flexible work hours and ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

ConsUnclear communication on product growth. Salary raises are low unless the first salary is negotiated well. Need more collaboration between teams.

    Fantastic Growth Experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsAlstom offered tremendous potential for a young communications professional to develop expertise in multiple areas of subject matter while building new skills through direct interaction with and counsel to senior executives.

ConsThe company, and its customers, are subject to any number of broader trends and issues that can add pressure to the day-to-day working environment but, even in light of that reality, Alstom never loses sight on taking care of its people.

    System D, the Alstom way

    Project Validation Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, international atmosphere in the office, sometimes good training opportunities, very easy to move up if you're talented.

ConsHighly siloed, most job stress is due to unnecessary internal friction. Very inconsistent and counter productive application of process (system D).

Advice to Senior ManagementYou people spend too much time fighting each other, this is waste! Processes that cause infighting cost the company huge $$$.

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great Resume Builder

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSalary and Benefits are great. There is career opportunities - especially in Engineering and Purchasing areas.

ConsCorporate changes and mandates from the European-based management can be challenging. Major differences between sectors.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't lock employees into "boxes" just because they are great at their job. Give them opportunities to expand into other areas

Used to be a great place to work...

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsTechnology applications for the energy industry - good work in an industry that is in demand.

ConsFrench management have taken over what used to be a leader in the industry. Managing contracts is more important than employees or customers. Hostile relationships and arrogance may be the norm in Europe and 3rd world countries, but not in the United States.

After years of service, departing employees should not expect to be thanked for their contributions, more likely to be issued a warning about how they will persecuted for working for a better company. Alstom uses bullying and fear tactics as a way to prevent employees from going to work somewhere else.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook to what made the company successful before the french takeover and run it like a US company.
