    Pros

Great customer oriented culture. Experienced co-workers are always available for help and guidance. Great education program. Mobility is encouraged. Compensation and benefits are very competitive for engineers.

    Cons

Some of the business units tend to be siloed. Sometimes there is internal competition that is counter productive. The main customer base is the coal fired power industry. With new environmental regulations, this has become a ch alleging market.

    Pros

THE ONLY THING about this place that was nice were the coworkers

    Cons

Wayyyyyy to much overhead without enough products going out they constantly messed with people as far as raises go and if you broke your leg and both wrists in a machining accident they would rather pay a cab to tote you back and forth to work than have you sit home and heal and rest.

Lots of room to grow, but little regard for individuals who take risks or are driven to move the business forward.

    Pros

Good people, good pay, lots of room for advancement, opportunities for international travel. Opportunity to migrate to diverse positions and departments. Plenty of good technologies.

    Cons

Company values bureaucrats over initiative; 'process' over effectiveness and customer concern. Company has tendency to burn people out; use them up. Struggling sites have endless OT requirements. Often doesn't allocate required staff at start of project; then once it is behind, will throw bodies at it in inefficient manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every employee and management survey in the company repeats the same issues. Management knows what the issues are but seems unable to take effective, long term action driven through middle-management to effect change.

I have been working at ALSTOM full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The work is interesting and you learn something new everyday. The job is enjoyable for me at least. Wide range of production jobs for wide range of skills ranging from basic inventory/ cleaning to highly technical . Most production areas have lots and lots of overtime if that's your thing.

    Cons

The French can't run a company to save their country (why they sold to GE). Management style is horrible in some areas. Copies the French style of micro management with multiple people to report to. Never sure who is the one that should make a decision. Most production areas have lots and lots of overtime if that's your thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good employees don't quit their jobs they quit their managers.

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits; great professional atmosphere. Great opportunity for a variety of assignments for technical professionals. The potential to have a meaningful impact on large, important projects. Good opportunity to travel. Lot of attention paid to the little details that make the work environment pleasant.

    Cons

As with most large organizations, a fair amount of "flavor of the month" type quality and improvement campaigns that were done for the sake of doing them without any apparent benefit. Some disconnect between the various divisions that were legacy companies from previous mergers and buyouts. Business outlook is probably not good in their market sector for the foreseeable future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Challenging Work, Great Work Environment & Colleagues

    Cons

Change in U.S. Leadership in 2013 - went from a great CEO to someone who never worked as a CEO before

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire someone who thinks about other people vs. themselves to run this company; someone who actually cares about all of the employees instead of just the favorites

    Pros

Varied responsibilities in a rich social environment. Respect of people. Technically challenging.

    Cons

Politics politics and politics. We can move as long as we have all flanks we'll covered. Seniority allows you progress thanks to your contacts and network. However, newcomers are note really fitting to the archaic structure of command.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Renew you management.
