I have been working at ALSTOM full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, international atmosphere in the office, sometimes good training opportunities, very easy to move up if you're talented.

    Cons

Highly siloed, most job stress is due to unnecessary internal friction. Very inconsistent and counter productive application of process (system D).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You people spend too much time fighting each other, this is waste! Processes that cause infighting cost the company huge $$$.

I have been working at ALSTOM full-time

    Pros

Technology applications for the energy industry - good work in an industry that is in demand.

    Cons

French management have taken over what used to be a leader in the industry. Managing contracts is more important than employees or customers. Hostile relationships and arrogance may be the norm in Europe and 3rd world countries, but not in the United States.

After years of service, departing employees should not expect to be thanked for their contributions, more likely to be issued a warning about how they will persecuted for working for a better company. Alstom uses bullying and fear tactics as a way to prevent employees from going to work somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to what made the company successful before the french takeover and run it like a US company.

I have been working at ALSTOM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Work hours are generally flexible and work/life balance is respected provided you don't take advantage and do come through when it counts for the company. They have a very broad customer base, but also very specific products which lends itself to stable income and repeat business. Other employees are generally very friendly and work together well. Pay and benefits are on par or better then other tech companies. Opportunity for travel or working in another country if you like is definitely available.

    Cons

Moving up in the company can be very difficult. They often hire management positions from outside the company and do not do a very good job of cultivating current employees. You can work here for a very long time and do essentially the same thing without opportunities for advancement. There are many employees with 10-15+ year careers standing in front of you before you start. Unfortunately even being a technology company, the internal IT department does a very poor job of keeping up with current technology and often implements policies and procedures that hinder rather then empower the business. The company could also do a better job engaging with employees for moral building events.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to govern the IT department in a way that empowers the business.
