Pros
Great first job to have
Free movies
"AMC Bucks": employee incentives you can trade in for prizes or food
Regularly did Employee Of The Month
Good overall theater company, with various programs that are amazing and fun
"Movie night" for employees was a blast!
Cons
Retaliation from certain managers for doing job too well
Favoritism rampant within management staff
Policy change for loyalty program in 2011, and subsequent push for sales, ended up losing A LOT of good employees for not-so-good reasons
Advice to Senior Management
Drop the hardcore push for sales
Don't expect too much from minimum wage employees
(Or maybe pay them more than minimum wage, lol)
Pros
Free movies, discounted concession items, friendly people to work with a majority of the time. Lots of skills and cross training to those who deserved it. Lots of opportunities to pick up shifts as long as others were willing to give them away. Apart of a mall so most places gave mall discounts. Variety of concession items.
Cons
If you don't want to or can't move around to other theatres you are pretty much blackballed from moving up. Bonuses were cut for hourly managers but the GMs and execs still got theirs. GMs seemed to care about their employees only when quarterly surveys came up instead of doing it on a daily basis. Managers weren't backed up.
Advice to Senior Management
Back up and treat your management staff better;especially the ones with tenure and have dedicated themselves to the company. Help your staff when they ask for it. Don't just act like you care when the ASI survey comes up. If someone can't or just doesn't want to change theatres, still give them a chance to move up. School is important!
Pros
Free movies. They are so expensive now that it really is a perk.
Cons
They do not appreciate you. It's all about the hours. You should not schedule workers then send them home when they get to work because you don't need them. Don't expect loyalty when you treat them like that.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the staff. The GM is not a god. They need to admit when they are wrong oe even in over their head. They also need to give credit where credit is due and not take the ideas of your managers or staff as you own and take all the praise.
Pros
Trained to become a manager, Trained in HR and Food & Beverage Management, Free Movies
Cons
Low Pay, Late hours, work holidays, dealing with young employees, dealing with "guests", No room for growth
Advice to Senior Management
Take advantage of the training AMC offers. Don't let customers and employees bring you down. Understand the politics in you area
Pros
Free Tickets, Popcorn, Drinks.
Get to see friends those you are working with and those who are customers.
Flexibility.
Cons
Some management was a bit crazy but you will find that anywhere.
PAY sucks. I was fine with it since it was my first job but I was getting minimum wage and raises are RARE.
Pros
This job provides flexible hours and you can usually find someone to take your shift or someoneelse's shift to take. Also you meet a lot of people from other schools and from the surrounding area. Also free movies for you and your family or a friend.
Cons
Customers are rude and you are well aware that the prices are incredibly high but you still have to sell everything with a smile. Also they expect you to "up sell" during every interaction. I left before stubs cards were introduced but now I hear you have to attempt to sell those during every interaction. Also minimum wage with no extra money for working holidays, which you are expected to work at least 2 or 3 (thanksgiving, christmas eve, christmas, new years, easter morning; i've worked ALL of these actually). Christmas is the WORST day to work so if you have a choice I'd choose to have that day off whether or not you have plans. You have to work really hard to get a promotion of any kind.
Pros
Free Movies, meet new people, flex schedule (works around school and college), all company numbers are online able to be view by management
Cons
long hours, late nights, underpaid, lack of free time, unfair holiday shifts, unwilling to pay bonus when they are do, when become manager or higher could be transferred with no warning and at times moved to far from home and unwilling to give raise, job is now based on AMC Stubs numbers and if your location does not produce then job is on the line.
Advice to Senior Management
pay employees better, care more for employees and not base performance on AMC Stub numbers
Pros
Free Movies, fellow employees were great and were a pleasure to work with while performing job duties. Inside look into how movie theaters work.
Cons
The management at the time I worked there was terrible. Was very hard to get time off. Putting up with the "guests". Especially the drunk ones.
Advice to Senior Management
Re-staff the lower level management. At the lower levels it was just like highschool, everything was a popularity contest, if you were friends with everyone, you could get away with almost anything. If you chose to stick to yourself, or did not get a long with a few select people, you were stuck with the worst jobs at the worst times.
Pros
Family atmosphere among coworkers and managers adds to the fun environment that is working a movie theater. Never a dull moment and always had a good time while working. Managers took complaints seriously and were awesome about scheduling issues, or issues with other coworkers. Through this company I made many friends to last a life time.
Cons
Sometimes it can be a little gross although I don't know what jobs aren't. I have extreme issues with one supervisor who is very disrespectful to me. The shifts can sometimes suck (Like an 8am opening shift on New Years Day!)
Advice to Senior Management
The managers do a great job making sure all employees are comfortable and happy with there jobs. I suggest the re-evaluate there supervisors because one of them is abusing her supervisor privileges and makes it a pain to work if she is there.
Pros
Free Popcorn and Sodas
good benefits, except for medical
free movies for family
somewhat competitive salary unless you are promoted from within
great atmosphere with coworkers and guests
good training process for general managers
ability to manage your business
highly technical
Cons
some general managers are jerks
some of the class instructors think they know it all and are easily proven otherwise
company has too much focus on loyalty program (STUBS card $12.00 per year)
Advice to Senior Management
Dont believe everything your general managers say
