I worked at AMD full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good, smart people to work with. Flexible work timing helps in good work life balance. Even though its a relatively big MNC, it doesn't bind you into to much of processes. Management is approachable.

    Cons

Perks are not that great. Promotion are slow. Consistent layoff were a matter of concern, doesn't help to build faith in management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to focus on how to ensure people don't lose faith in the organization and management in general. Provide a sense of security to the employee.

I have been working at AMD full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

While company overall is not performing well, it is in a way good for India. Company is very serious about India, china strategy. Lot of work moving to these places.

    Cons

Lack of vision in client division. Company is not transforming fast enough to be competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use these times to strengthen India plans.

I worked at AMD as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. You get to work on the latest technology and that too from the scratch.
    2. Lots of scope for learning and personal development.
    3. A contractor is equally respected and treated as a full-time employee. (But this is changing now, at least in Bangalore office)
    4. Flexible work hours/office buses/night cabs if you work late.

    Cons

    1. Work pressure has increased and hence, work-life balance is greatly affected, especially for the contractors.
    2. Bangalore office far off from the city adds to the travel time and unnecessary stress.
    3. Poor project management. Higher management wants to achieve many things with limited resources and time which sometimes leads to chaos.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

AMD was very good 3-4 years ago. Please try to achieve and maintain that. It will take sometime to be profitable.

    Pros

    Cons

Work -life imbalance and poor mid management on technical issue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time to connect to working engineers and skip level meeting to resolve real issue which help engineers to remain motivated.

    3. Slow management
    4. Poor marketing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at AMD full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the best engineers I have worked with.

    Cons

Lots of politics within groups, sites etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is really a company of great engineers. Learn to tap that capability and turn around the company as it has happened several timers in the past.
