    Pros

AMD is always working on leading-edge designs, other than the fact that thanks to foundry realities, they can't work on the same process node as Intel.
My contract hourly rate was good, but very limited benefits were available to purchase.
    The coffee was good.

    Cons

I often found that the tools and flows often didn't work, leading to broken builds of the chip or block. This would happen most when results were most eagerly needed.
The stress I constantly felt to get results while the tools weren't working was very stifling.
On top of this, many of my co-workers were very unfriendly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Get your tools and flows to work cleanly;
    2. While we have to work hard, encourage weekends and nights off
    3. Try to hire more "balanced" people. American citizens usually are...e

    Pros

This applied to graphics side of the company. They do good work. Leaders in the market. At least some people are good.

    Cons

Old fashioned company where things are hard to change and Sr people are too far behind in the use of technology. Company goes to any length to save money including not giving any raises and almost breaking job contracts yet doing it in such a way that you can't sue.

Get the job contracts reviewed by someone experienced or even by an attorney. They often have clauses that will allows them to make compensation look better on paper than they actually are. A lot of people who don't care and know the company won't fire them. If you are manager, and new, hard to survive. Everyone above you will act like they own your group!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees better. Don't try to outsmart them in their compensations. Treat them better genuinely.

    Pros

Lots of great engineering staff to work with
Work can be interesting if you can get in the right department

    Cons

Salaries are average unless you are in management position.
    AMD strives for average benefits.
Management doesn't not really want people who think out of the box and question them - just say yes and be quiet.
Newer management hasn't a clue about what's going on. I think they are just there to collect their parachutes and move on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To change the culture of a company you might first try attempting to improve the company instead of blaming your employees for their lack of work and and in attention to the customer.

    Pros

Lots of very smart people, can have interesting products depending on which sub division you are in

    Cons

Chaotic, highly political, despite a reasonably flat organization very title driven, if you are not part of one of the fiefdoms you are not valuable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop thinking that Austin is the center of the universe and think about long term strategy not next quarter

    Pros

Intelligent, hardworking employees. Work-life balance. You'll get to meet great people who want to do their jobs well, and you may even learn a lot from them.

    Cons

Benefits and perks are minimal. Leadership is void at best. Too many fiefdoms, management don't listen to employees. Career growth is very limited at best, and you constantly have this nagging feeling that you'll get laid off at any time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not sure if management is doing what's best for themselves or for the company.

    Pros

great graphics technology, good work-life balance most of the time, some good research opportunities, relaxed work ethic, nice coworkers, not too much local politics

    Cons

this company is a chronic underachiever and so cannot attract talented executives (who are compensated in relation to the company profits). managers range from incompetent to lackluster. An engineering career will go nowhere here but you may gain valuable experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

resign and break up the company

    Pros

The best thing was a nice work like balance and also nice people to with. Another good reason was that it does a lot of things, so you can potentially work on some things that you like.

    Cons

The biggest con for me, was that salary was not at the market level and with minimal bonus etc, you pretty much grow very slowly financially.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate people in sync with the market
