I worked at AMETEK (More than a year)

    Pros

Production team (assy and test) all have worked there for 10+ years and are the most dedicated people I have encountered. They are very knowledgable and willing to work hard to meet production goals.

    Cons

If you are a temp, they take a long time to convert to permanent status (if they decide to convert you.) There is always turnover in upper management which makes things difficult. Each person comes in with different metrics, requirements and expectations and it felt like we had to start over each time a new manager stepped in.

    Advice to Management

Work on retaining managers. Good ones have left right when we felt like the momentum started rolling. Also need to cut back on overtime for production folks.

    Pros

Great people, good benefits package, production people always willing to help and step up when there's a problem or urgent customer order needed. Engineers jump to solve problems or issues when asked on the floor.

    Cons

Insufficient inventory for sudden demands. No room for expansion, non-existent cross training of operators. Short staffed everywhere, even in front office departments. Antiquated machinery and equipment, no investment for the future.

    Advice to Management

Stop bleeding your divisions dry and invest in capital equipment, and people, before it's too late.

I worked at AMETEK (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very decentralized organizational structure with a lot of autonomy to get the job done.

    Cons

Very bottom line focused resulting in little people focus.

    Advice to Management

While I understand the need to return to shareholders and meet Wall Street's commitments, there is very little focus on the long term implications of the short term cost cutting.

    I worked at AMETEK full-time

    Pros

Professional, easy going environment. Nice staff. Pay was great, that is about it.

    Cons

Over-worked, underpaid, micro managed to the hilt. The wage paid was not worth the work expected. Their expectations were far greater than that of the position they hired for. They have a high turnover rate in all positions in all of the company and it is due to the Big Brother Corporate Giant that looks over their shoulders at every waking moment, and the managers both supervisors and upper-management do not know how to run a business, but are very good at holding unnecessary meetings that take people away from their daily tasks and further drives sales south for the business. It is unconscionable to not provide the proper training to your employees that they deserve. Perhaps if the business could provide supplies that the employee needs to function in their job, they wouldn't have disgruntled staff. This place runs VERY LEAN and that means every aspect. This company has minimal staff to accomplish tasks, meaning they require lots of overtime to get the jobs done. This company does not provide the tools necessary to function in their job, so it is only a matter of time before someone gets tired of it and leaves. Also, when they hired me for the position, the job turned out to be something completely different than expected. Seems to happen a lot there. They say "we are a family", but you really need to watch your back.

    Advice to Management

Stop Micro-managing your employees and give them the proper training they deserve instead of throwing your employees into the deep end with anvils. Upper-management doesn't know how to run a business and if they don't want high turn-over, they need to figure out how to keep their employees happy and not stressed out beyond what they can handle. They need to understand, also, that vacation and personal days matter to the employee. If you only offer 7 days off AFTER the first year of working there, you are begging for people to quit. Work on bettering the morale and work/life balance for your employees.

    Pros

You will always have a lot of responsibility and more work than you can handle, so it helps the day go by fast! Never a dull day here. Upper management does not micro-manage and allows business managers to make business decisions, although they are very strict and sometimes stifling in the resources they allow. Good tuition reimbursement program and 401k. There are opportunities to advance and the company often (but not always) promotes from within.

    Cons

Businesses are often looked at to be in "harvest mode" and it is difficult to get management to invest in needed resources. It can be frustrating when you see so many deficiencies and areas that need improvement but no budget or resources to do so. There is no lack of cash available though and projects that have a 1.5 year payback or better are easily funded. Management is willing to invest in new product development as well. Also, turnover is relatively high and management does not hesitate to make layoffs if businesses have a prolonged period of slowdown.

I have been working at AMETEK (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I am currently part of this company. I am quiet happy to work with this organisation. Listing few major pros which I noticed here: 1. Quality work 2. Very friendly environment 3. Supportive seniors 4. Good pay.

    Cons

It has many cons as well. But main problem I feel is with management i.e. they should be more transparent towards their employees while taking decisions.

    Advice to Management

Managerial decisions should be more transparent.
