I have been working at AMETEK

    Pros

Excellent growth opportunity, strong leadership development, competitive pay, strong support from management, educational assistance, drive for success. In working for Ametek, I received a promotion and have received strong support during my transition. There is a strong investment in personnel and development and I have been given many opportunities to receive training when I needed it; internally and externally. The company places an emphasis on recognizing talent and developing that talent. I would say that one is given many opportunities to grow and thrive within the organization - the truly limiting factor is yourself. Overall as an organization, new ideas, processes, and systems are implemented specifically to make us a stronger, more profitable business. We are encouraged to participate and help develop those ideas, processes and systems; to be a contributor and enjoy our success.

    Cons

I have experienced some communication gaps, but nothing major. Within each function, it would be nice to have a "roadmap" with names, responsibilities, and contact information.

    Pros

Everyone is accessible and you are free to ask questions. The other engineers are helpful and the technicians love to work with the engineers to fix problems. There is always something to do so you do not get bored.

    Cons

Tight budget from corporate to get things fixed. I wish the company offered training to help improve the employees skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some more group activities to try and raise morale in the company.

Good employer overall. Typical publicly traded corporation, however, where shareholders come first.

I have been working at AMETEK full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, leading edge technology

    Cons

Big corporate mentality. If sales do not meet forecast, expect layoffs/furloughs to recover for shareholder benefit. In my location, some mid level management tends to have less than professional management skills. Will throw employees under the bus for their own gain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start paying more attention to what is really going on at the lower levels. Demand more professional behavior from your low to mid level managers. Understand skill levels of employees and promote to their performance rather than their ability to "talk" a good game.

I worked at AMETEK full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

able to work with other employees around the globe

    Cons

horrible benefits, low moral, management doesn't work with employees.
Company is much to money hungry and does not reinvest in its people. Only in other companies (which are bought and then dissolved into Shanghai)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay attention to the common regular ol' employee. We have a lot to say.

    I worked at AMETEK full-time

    Pros

    - Employees are friendly with each other and encourage one another to do their best.
    - Cross-department collaboration is encouraged and relationships are easily formed to allow for projects/tasks to be completed at a high-level.
    - Benefits/Salary are competitive, management is honest when you are approaching a ceiling and encourage you to find ways to further your career if you so desire.
    - Flexibility to work from home for family/personal issues as well as weather-related issues (i.e. snowstorm, etc.).
    - Fantastic environment for people who do not like to be micro-managed.
    - Ability to travel is offered for those employees who may be interested in on-site visits to customers and other AMETEK facilities.
    - Cross-department training is encouraged and people looking to try out new roles are given opportunity to do so.

    Cons

    - Tremendous amount of pressure from upper management to meet the monthly/quarterly/annual numbers at seemingly any cost.
    - External customer service is seemingly sacrificed in order to please those who most benefit from higher profit margins.
    - Needing to interface with multiple facilities across different professional cultures for projects can sometimes prove difficult, though can be overcome with patience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Upper Management would be better viewed by the staff (both union and non-union) if they listened to and took into consideration/action the feelings and ideas of all employees. Many do not feel a full sense of ownership in what AMETEK is doing, and feel like they are just working for the benefit of a few.
    - The external customer is right more often than AMETEK gives them credit for, and business would be better overall if more flexibility were given in negotiations for contracts, etc.

I worked at AMETEK full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

None. Ametek does not care about their employees. They have sent thousands of jobs offshore.

    Cons

Company is mis-managed. Current leadership team is a joke. Sales Manager is an embarrassment and a buffoon. Within a year of acquiring us, they decided to close the plant I had worked at for over 15 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of current leadership (and I use the term loosely).

    Pros

The people seem to be genuine and friendly. They do have nice benefits and are good at training.

    Cons

They are not open to change or 'how to do it better' ideas. They're happy with 'status quo' mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
