I worked at AMP Capital Investors

    Pros

A very collaborative environment ensures you have a voice. AMPCI has a broad range of investment capabilities which creates opportunities to make a move sideways and gain experience in many areas. Majority of people really care about the company they work for.

    Cons

There is a lot of talk about the importance of the client but this does not always come through in the actions of some senior managers. People need to be held more accountable for their actions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much information is kept behind close doors or divulged too late. Be more open with employees.

  2.

Too much restructuring after initial restructuring.

I have been working at AMP Capital Investors

    Pros

Most colleagues are collegiate and focus on best business outcomes. Genuine interest for clients goals. Good office location.

    Cons

Bureaucratic and poor strategy, big ambitions poor execution, global growth has fallen well short of targets. Constant restructuring and cost reductions which is unsettling for those being retained.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to understand international markets consultants and follow through with growth strategies.

I have been working at AMP Capital Investors full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits that are very little to do with base salary or bonuses

    Cons

    - Pay is lower than market offer
    - Overblown expenses budgets on projects that go nowhere e.g. ROEE

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior mgmt need to be more "open and transparent" as they love to preach but fail to abide.

    Great people, great life balance

I worked at AMP Capital Investors

    Pros

Good working environment, very welcoming team, fast learning process, good reputation, nice building centrally located, management was very approachable and open to give positive feedback for future positions.

    Cons

Perhaps the company is a bit too much Aussie-focused. Maybe as a consequence of this, it is slower in adapting to change in comparison to its competitors. With hindsight, it's probably a company one would want to end up at, rather than begin at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Push for making it a more dynamic company.

  7.

    Good Management team

I worked at AMP Capital Investors full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Strong expertise in their field of work
    - Management team are friendly
    - multinational corporation that allows for international exposure - fast learning process

    Cons

    - may have some red tape
    - very aussie-focused

Hence all of the above may have made AMP capital slow to adapt to changes with the modern financial industry

  8.

Friendly culture, slow to move with the times

I have been working at AMP Capital Investors full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly, 'nice' respectful culture, strong well-known corporate brand, nice well-located offices. Mentoring opportunities for talented staff.

    Cons

Slow to innovate, and behind many competitors in terms of systems and practices. Pays below market, very hard to get salary increases once inside, so loses many top performers for this reason. Conservatism holds the company back as does constant restructuring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review retention strategies for high performing staff.

I worked at AMP Capital Investors

    Pros

AMP have a wide range of investment styles and large scale. They are pretty entrepreneurial and willing to attempt some new ventures. With their new systems they also have some capability to implement modern trading methods. Their front office also has some clever people

    Cons

AMP is a FUM aggregator. Their front office was poorly organised and their main game was to hang onto as much FUM as possible. Their major systems renewal project was also wasteful and poorly run, with sub-par results for the money spent. It was difficult to innovate and achieve good results there

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more honest with yourselves and review the effectiveness of your middle management
