I have been working at ANSYS full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Work with very bright people.
    - Develop cutting edge simulation software.
    - Decent pay.
    - Free soft drinks.

    Cons

    - A lot of bureaucracy to deal with in a fairly small company.
    - Very top-down management philosophy. New ideas are expected to flow from upper levels down, rarely from rank and file up.
    - IT department does not have a culture of customer satisfaction. Does not work well with development.
    - Corporate strategy is to grow through acquisition instead of by creating new products/ideas internally.
    - Not a lot of love and affection lavished on employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe, just once in a while, loosen up on the purse strings and do something nice for the employees. Not just snacks and cookies in the lunch room, but a fancy dinner cruise or something. A free t-shirt or a mug once in a while. Something.

    Pros

People are the best reason for working at ANSYS. They are true professionals in all areas of the business. Every department can be counted upon to do their job, and cooperate fully when needed from another department.

    Cons

There are a few fiefdoms in the corporate office. It can tend to be clique-ish; when you're in the right crowd, it's great. Not so much if you are in the outside, looking in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer stock options to all levels of employees, not just the senior management and the "stars". Give everyone a chance to shine and recognize them for that contribution.

    Pros

Products and vision are a driving force in the market and ANSYS is a leader here.

    Cons

Ability to be agile, strategy concepts, leadership lacking for large company. Marketing and IT staff are the worst groups in the company. ANSYS needs a better understanding on how to manage large accounts and how to compensate those that manage them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to force multiply your sales staff with your sales reps. You will get more with honey than with vinegar!
