    Organization without a vision

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Washington, DC

ProsI had the opportunity to work with experts in the field and learn from the state health and human service directors, APHSA membership, which was invaluable. The work I had was amazing.

ConsAPHSA has faced tremendous reduction in it's membership and are heavily based on membership dues. The organization has restructured the staff, vision, mission and has downsized. While I was there, many of my colleagues turned over to other companies. They don't have capacity to hire and some affiliates don't have much work.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Surprisingly progressive for a small organization

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEmerging strategy that focuses on innovative solutions
Excellent work-life balance policies and culture
    Thoughtful, supportive, and smart co-workers
Opportunity to serve a cause and work with interesting members and partners

ConsSupervision and management skills are uneven
The association is often battling with its financial limitations
A sometimes state-centric, program-centric mindset interferes with the strategy of innovation

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue on the current path of formulating and implementing strategy, and back it up with a more focused effort on developing the management and supervisory skills of everyone in those roles. Continue to upgrade the staff, as the association went through a period of low performance accountability (this has now changed).

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
