I worked at API (more than an year)

    Pros

    Nothing good at the university

    Cons

The students really like to complaint about the lecturers. More than 90% of the students are foreigners. They have a very high and unrealistic expectation. As the uni is offering 3+0 UK degree, the students claim that they really need to receive 'tips', or else they cannot pass the paper. They claimed that the standard is much higher than the malaysian public universities. When the lecturers refused to give the 'Tips', they will find fault with the lecturer and start to complaint about the lecturer to the mgmt. Poor quality assignments and plagiarised assignments were submitted, not only from the oroginal source, but also from their fellow classmates, but the students still feel proud and claim thar they deserve to receive good marks. If you are passionate about teaching, wanted to uphold your principles and ethics as an academician, and wanted to build your academic career and reputation, this is certainly not a good place to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish a better and fair assessment of the lecturer's performance rather than relying on assessment by the foreign students which are full of emotion and influenced by the act of revenge. Of course listening to the comments and complaints from the students are beneficial in improving the university, but solely relying to them is not a good practice. Most of them have bad attitude and just wanted to have good grades without putting enough effort. They will just blame others especially the lecturers when they don't get good grades. Remember, the students are important but if you keep on listening and fulfilling their demand for high marks without putting in enough efforts and producing quality assigments, etc. quality will sufffer, as well as the reputation of the university. Lecturers are more important, without them you can't run the courses....

Current Employee - Lecturer in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

I have been working at API full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Well if you have a money tree growing in your backyard then go for it. Because they will charge you for every possible thing that is supposed to be free for a student. Starting from printout charges to hefty accommodation, travel and even the food cost. And god forbid, if you fail any exam then there is a good amount of money that you will be paying for a resit too.

    Cons

poor management, sub standard classroom equipment, extremely poor quality of education, if you want to complete your Bachelors or Masters by studying from power point slides then this university is your best choice. They have hired teachers who are clowns. In short this place is good for students who want to have a good time not for serious chaps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have amassed enough money now give it back in the form of quality education. Cultural shows should not be used to attract more crowd but quality people.
