Pros
- Challenges on the job
- Fair and value driven work environment
- Great exposure to the ports management and operations
Cons
- Limited exposure to other group entities.
- APM Terminals generally looks inward into the group (especially the liner shipping division) for talent
- Limited focus on non container business
Advice to Senior Management
- Further dissociation from the liner division required
- Increase pay scales (there have been moderate improvements)
- Understand that Port Management talent is always limited, so try hard to nurture them professionally and retain them.
Pros
A great place to work if you are concerned with workplace facilities , cross functional exposure, networking and learning about global trade
Cons
Its a very big organization therefore difficult to get noticed for good work plus the human resource department may not be of much help
Pros
Ability to make a real impact on the business. Great benefits package. Family atmosphere in most locations. Part of A.P. Moller-Maersk conglomerate means cross business unit transfers and international exposure.
Cons
Management in North America continues to reduce the organization and limit career growth. Sr. management seems unaware of talent drain over the past 18 months stemming from frustration.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a step back from viewing the current organization as specialists, and promote career growth.
Pros
Overall level of staff - highly professional, lots to learn
Good compensation package
Cons
The company is growing so fast, it looses track of some areas and focuses too much on other.
Senior Management change the way too often
Advice to Senior Management
More transparency, less office moves
Pros
The opportunities to work abroad abound and job security is relatively stable. Numerous colleagues have transfered to Europe, Africa and South America. Growth projections remain aggressive and will continue to expand beyond our current network of +50 terminals.
Cons
Important organizational changes seemingly never get trickled down to all employees. Promotions can be questionable and filled with favoritism and/or cronyism. Working in Operations can be grueling for any work/life environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Better planning and dissemination of informations is critical to the success of the organization. Listening to lower tier employees will give them a wealth of information on the state of the organization. Senior management would also benefit by offering competitive salaries in relation to industry standards.
