    Pros

APS allows people early in their career to get valuable experience and opportunities to grow and develop that other companies would not normally offer. I was brought in "green" and was given the opportunity to take on challenging assignments (with support from my Manager). I hope to continue to grow with the organization.

Our CEO/Chairman and COO hold a "All Associates Call" each quarter to update all Staff on company updates and initiatives. At the end of the call, each and every employee can give feedback and ask questions. This type of open communication at any Company is rare, and I appreciate it at APS.

An Employee Survey is offered to all staff each year. The results and action plans to improve are communicated to all staff as well.

With any company, APS has its ups and downs. But I truly feel top management has good intentions and does want to improve company performance and employee satisfaction.

    Cons

APS programs are contract driven, which means there may be reductions and complete losses in contracts. When this happens reductions in force are required. This tends to cause job security issues with all staff across the organization, and with that brings discontent among staff. With that being said, APS does offer tools and resources to assist with finding a new job if an Employee is laid off.

Since APS is an growing organization, there is trial and error with processes and procedures. Just have to be willing to ride the wave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top management could do a better job communicating the negative stuff to staff - lost contracts, bids not won, turnover, etc. Communicate to all staff the good and bad.

    Pros

Some of the best people in the industry.

    Cons

Company is falling apart. Being sued by itself. No future. Everyone that is left is just waiting for the lights to go off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize the hidden talent. A piece of paper will never replace experience.

    Pros

Senior mgmt puts effort into connecting with us more so than other places I have worked. The work we do is so important to needy and sick Americans. My boss and her boss make me feel important.

    Cons

Government contracts make job security shaky. We hear about programs being cancelled or closed in other states. Budgets are really tight trying to get by with fewer staff than we used to have, makes for pressure and stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better pay, more appreciation for what the everyday employee does, profit sharing.

    Pros

    Work life balance
    Some challenging projects

    Cons

    Sr. Mgt does not communicate
    Middle mgt
Company and its data are too decentralized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company suffers from poor morale and major lack of communication. The Sr. Management does not seem to understand this. If I were a stakeholder, I would sell the company fast before Investors do their due diligence, show up to the APS offices and realize that the company just doesn't have it together.

It's all about the bottom line

    Pros

The people here are great to work with. Some of the most hard working, down to earth individuals.

    Cons

Management lacks communication skills necessary to make good leaders. Fluffing employee surveys and not working to actually fix the problems within the company. Often not thinking through decisions initially and then having to go back and make the same decisions all over again. Unfortunately they do not learn from past mistakes. Independent thinking and creative minds are not rewarded but can most likely lead to your early retiremet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to listen to your employees. Without the "little guy" there would be no bottom line. HR needs to be revamped. Rewards for hard work, it does not make your employees work harder if the only ones getting bonuses and raises are senior management.

    Pros

Used to be an entreprenureal company - Prior leaders were awesome. The company may have been chaotic but everyone worked hard and made great progress. Could have been a real competitor under the right leadership.

    Cons

Current leadership - slimy HR practices - nepotism of executive leadership - no opportunity to advance - no direction - secrecy - smoke and mirrors operations - poor investment and development strategy - too long to make decisions that should be "no-brainers" - benefits stink - tremendously high turn-over even within the leadership that was initially brought on board. Make your money and move on...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get new leaders and be honest - don't know how you can sleep at night

    Pros

Committed Leadership Team who believe in the Vision of this company & are here because they want to be!
    Atmosphere,
    Location
Management Style, they ask for & listen to your input. They care about how you feel and they mentor their employees.

    Cons

The downsides of working here are due to their size & 'youth.'
The 401K Plan isn't too competitive or as rich as other larger companies.
Promotional opportunities are limited due to their size

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We're growing fast & hiring rapidly, assess your long-term employee needs before hiring more.

    Pros

Right company in the right place at the right time. Change behavior is key to improve health care quality overall. This will be critical as health care in the US changes in the near future. Very data driven and analytic focused. Management shows strong support to innovators and those willing to improve the company. Much potential exists within different areas of the company. Successful wins on the public side of the business with disease management. Employee base is a bit younger, so easier to relate. APS has bold plans to become a premier player in the industry and is wasting no time to get there.

    Cons

Historically, the company has been completely decentralized and very chaotic. Very poor alignment between business units and corporate functional areas. Employee benefits are not great, with health care benefits finally getting attention and action from senior management. 401k matching and tuition reimbursement not great either. HR is almost non-existent with employees and no career development planning is available. Management is trying hard to change the culture, but it is not something that can be done overnight. Employees sometimes have a hard time figuring out how they fit into the big picture. Younger company an employees lack wisdom of more established firms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture is very hard to change quickly; culture will eat strategy for lunch any day. Work first to achieve success in that area, and the rest will follow.
