Pros
Good money. I guess if you stay on board for about 10 years you could move up. There are guys that I work with that a re 5 years in with no hope for promotion.
Cons
Long hours and little time off. Have to work paid holidays. If the contract is big enough it doesn't matter what day it is you'll be working. No time off in 3 years
Advice to Senior Management
Be mire attentive to your employees. Pay them attention or you will find yourself doing the peoples jobs that you want no part of.
Pros
The company is strong and there are a lot of good people who work for Aramark.
Cons
If you work for the wrong person, your career could end without warning. Some have entirely too much power and use it to keep their own heads above water. It will catch up with them. I don't know how some people keep their jobs when they are clearly inept.
Pros
"Doing the right the right way", I can really get on board with that philosophy.
Cons
One must be totally committed in order to be successful with ARAMARK.
Pros
Aramark's IT department lets you work with a lot of technologies. You get the opportunity to do and learn things.
Cons
Projects are numerous and fast-paced, not leaving a lot of time to learn the things you are expected to implement.
Pros
Compensation is good. Opportunity exists for those who can produce.
Cons
After committing a good portion of my life (over 19 year) to this company, I was sad to watch it decline into a place where reoganizations eveyr 2 years were expected, along with lots of turnover at the regional leadership level. I was told by a senior leader that I was not focusing on making chaings in my region because I didn't fire anyone at the management level. It seems to me the company is making moves with people to conserve costs and go young in the field, saving the largest salaries and positions for the coporate level. The thought leaders of the company left when the company went public, cashing in on their stock options. The gap of talent left was as wide as the Grand Canyon, filled with people who are over their head and continue to fail, firing those around them to buy more time until their severance pakcage is delivered.
Advice to Senior Management
You completed a survey of your employees and ignored the results. good people are leaving because you are treating them poorly, protecting the people who make the company more mean spirited. The way the Healthcare division is being run is deplorable. You are spitting on the legacy that the founders and builders of the company built. The company is managed by fear and intimidation, the bullies are rewarded. Your current strategy didn't work for Circuit City, maybe rethinking the path would be wise.
Best advice: prepare for takeover and mass exodus of your good managers. If you treated people better, you would be much better off today than you were yesterday. Take a look at your turnover at the manager, district, and regional levels - the data is screaming at you and you are failing to act.
Best of luck, you will need it in the coming months.
Pros
Great benefits package, intensive training for new managers, capable upper level management, good company communication, large company so it has a lot of promotion possibilities after you meet the minimum work requirement
Cons
You definitely work long hours but that is the nature of food service and catering. Sometimes the pressure is overwhelming and there is little balance between personal life and work life.
Advice to Senior Management
Rather than having turnover within a unit, find out the strengths of the employees, what their career goals are, and work to help your employees reach those goals without leaving to go to the competition.
Pros
Job growth opportunity; Minimal relocation required if you work in a city; Supportive of employees attending job related Graduate Programs and reimbursement for education expenses
Cons
Frequent relocation is possible; Treatment of maturing front line leadership employees not satisfactory; Inconsistent standards held for front line staff compared to regional/corporate staff; Overload of information and its uses creates an aggressive and disrespectful environment. Promotional opportunities sometimes given to those with the "Corporate" image rather than by performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect employees. The business environment has changed from valuing employees to valuing the dollar. Its a shame.
Pros
the job is very flexibel
Cons
the salary is not good for the job you do
