ARAMARK Anonymous:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

One of the best things about working with Aramark is that you do have a plethora of options to choose from, and can switch your job around within the company.

Cons

Decisions were not always made to consider the employees but were mostly made based on what looked good on paper and what was expedient.

Advice to Senior Management

The best advice I could give management would be to really consider how different "cost cutting" practices affect employees before considering how they affect the wallet.

chef manager

Pros

Flexible hours, Good opportunity to advance in career, different career options advertised internally. managment are easy to deal with. low turnover of staff and good backing from top level management.

Cons

Salary could be better that would be the main drawback. Better training of relief staff for catering duties. No bonuses for targets achieved in catering

Advice to Senior Management

Overall I am happy with this company and would reccomend others to work there, it allows for a good work/life balance compared to many catering jobs.

ARAMARK Executive Chef:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

The benefits were decent, it had a good location, tools to achieve the work expected, pay was ok for the type of business

Cons

Difficult to advance, employment very cyclicle, as management, labor pool was very low quality (no drug testing) , many difficult to manage.

Advice to Senior Management

They need better mechanisms to advance performing employees. There is not enough recognition for jobs well done managing a unit under high difficulty levels.

Pros

*Regular schedule
*Technoligical inmprovements as of late
*Many career opportunites
*If you have a good FSD you can learn alot
*The company helps you set and achieve goals

Cons

Not many jobs out of the cities.
Sometimes the clients are difficult to work with (unreasonable).
Sometimes you are expected to do large catering jobs on the fly.

Advice to Senior Management

Get into the components more. See who is really doing the work at your components. Some of the more remote components are employing managers that are computer illiterate, and some managers who get paid salaries are working a 8-3 schedule.

ARAMARK Food Service Director in Orlando, FL:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Your work schedule depends upon the operation. If the operation is only opened for breakfast & lunch M-F, then you benefit from being a food service manager having evenings, weekends & holidays off.

Cons

Technology seems behind the times, lack of Window based systems, POS, detailed reports, lot of manual work and duplication of effort.

Advice to Senior Management

Other companies try to locate managers closer to their home so they don't have such long drives on top of long work schedules.

Pros

Fun people. Fun perks - play hard.

Cons

Food service / Uniform service are very low margin businesses. The firm works you to death and quietly discourages taking time off. There is a large disconnect between working in the field and working in corporate headquarters known as The Tower.

Advice to Senior Management

Perks are nice but job dissatisfaction is high among employees, especially now that old stock award plans (where long term employees got rich) are long gone. A common ARAMARK practice is to fire employees of underperforming divisions - huge turnover. This is very transparent to the employees and creates poor morale. Minority employees, however, receive better treatment as the firm seems to be overly concerned about potential lawsuits and the perception that a bunch of "white guys in suits" are running the show in Philadelphia.

ARAMARK Staffing Manager in Washington, DC:   (Current Employee)

Not too bad

Pros

my boss and I always got along very well
promoted 3 seperate times
easily able to cross lines of businesses

Cons

refused FMLA time off of work
senior management uncaring and gender discriminating
poor communication regarding contract renewal and job placement

Advice to Senior Management

open lines of communication to your employees and place them in jobs when you make that promise to them. Value your front line staff; they're the "face" of your organization!
