    Pros

Room for advancement. Pay is good.

    Cons

Some beurocracy, but that is normal with a company this size.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so rigid on billable hour goals.

    Pros

Great benefits, compensation was above average even for entry level.

    Cons

Personal growth is rather limited if you have a necessary niche skill/knowledge. Management is a nightmare to deal with, especially if you need an answer or results. Communication is absolutely terrible. I felt as though I was merely a number. This organization looks for someone to follow them blindly, it was almost as though I was made to feel like I had insulted a superior for trying to offer input on how to improve a process or protocol.

    Advice to Management

LISTEN TO THE FEEDBACK YOUR EMPLOYEES PROVIDE. They are the ones on the ground level. Huge disconnect between the office and the field. Communication needs significant improvement.

    Pros

Truly great people, excellent learning environment, great global networking and exchanges. In many regards, ARCADIS is the best company I have ever worked for and I am grateful for the experience.

    Cons

If you're not "technical", you're considered lesser than. While recent efforts have turned to "marketing" (a term that has yet to be clearly defined and communicated) as the term of the year, experience of internal candidates is ignored. What's more, the actual proposal process is seen by management as an "administrative" action that anyone can manage.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people, listen to their concerns - even if you have no ready solution - without dismissing them as being negative. Change is good and is the only constant we have, but it doesn't have to be so painful.

    Pros

Tons of opportunities for people that learn quickly, have diligence, are professional, and maintain open lines of communication to the project team. Diversified work. Countless resources to reach out to for help on pretty much any project you work on. Paid overtime (in the form of straight pay).

    Cons

Large company with focus on the numbers (billability). Company structure pretty much emphasizes devotion of your life to work. Limited vacation days. Billable metrics (aka amount of time required to spend working on client specific projects). Rigid promotion scale, doesn't matter what people around you say about you drive/motivation/work ethic, it comes down to billable metrics.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your employees, practice what you preach in terms of fostering an environment of employee retention/loyalty. Focus less on the billable goals and more about employee happiness.

    Pros

    Good benefits
Flexible schedules for certain departments (not all though!)
    Company engages in interesting work/projects

    Cons

Corporate office is extremely political. Lacks strong, innovative leaders that empower employees. Could be a great company, but is blocked by archaic methods and weak corporate leaders. Change in leadership/strategy would really benefit Arcadis. Hiring standards have declined and corporate customer service (HR, finance) went from great to ok.

    Advice to Management

Show that you care about your EMPLOYEES, not just profits, hitting billability goals, and winning work. Don't turn your back on questionable practices or injustice happening within the company.

    Pros

High.competitive team work, very experienced staff, great opportunities to create a big network for your furure career.

    Cons

The pressure is very high from the side of your supervisors, there is just a few or non existance guidance for the first days of training so some newcomers young people can feel disoriented.

    Advice to Management

To continue with those high pressure programs to integrate young people into the staff but not to forget the introductory parts.

    Pros

A fast growing company that can provide its staff with good opportunities to develop their careers. The company has Good values and employs Nice people with the right attitude who can take a range of rewarding career paths. The company also has a strong account management and development focus

    Cons

The company is growing fast through acquisition and the company is therefore often in a state of organisational flux. Structural re-organisations happen regularly . The brand is also not well known enough yet and has also failed to keep pace with the growth of the business. More work is needed on this front.

    Advice to Management

Work on the company structure and the brand

    Pros

There was a good environment within the organisation in the UK. Most of the offices are in very good locations throughout the UK. New staff were treated well and there is a good in-house training programme in place. Exposure to a variety of projects throughout UK and Europe. Potential for international travel. Given a lot of responsibility and pushed to perform at a high standard. Travel expenses are generous. Potential to work from home.

    Cons

Poor rate of pay for new staff and bonuses are hard to come by. Level of work, particularly for graduates can be poor. Manual, physical work involved which is unusal for such a consultancy. Can be very difficult and slow process to move up the pay grades to a more senior position. A lot of driving and travel involved for site based consultants. Poor work-life balance. Most of time spent away from office. The Newmarket office can only be accessed by car.
