Nice people, but slow work and minimal ambition

    Intern (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsI worked as an intern here and the work was easy and people were nice,

ConsVery little going on at this company. I felt like people came in and just did the bare minimum to not get fired. Seems to be little opportunity for promotions.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to motivate your employees more and set more goals within the company

    Better than some!

    Technical (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThe benefits are better than some technical companies in this segment even though they have taken a hit lately. Involved in a variety of projects and fields which could be a plus for stability for company health.

Consthe raises aren't keeping up with inflation. Some upper-middle management are dead wood who don't value other opinions. Ares made divisions which does not help morale and cohesion.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in the technical people or you lose more in the end. cut the dead weight in the middle.

    Well organized, effective company

    Senior Engineer (Former Employee)
    Denver, CO

ProsThe company provided a generous 401k contribution, retained smart people, and the leadership clearly communicated the direction of the company. the variety of projects allowed quick lineup changes to find good fits between employee skills and company needs.

Consthe leadership was not always able to achieve their growth goals, and seemed to have little effect in making real direction changes.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore communication between offices would be beneficial

    Experienced Company, Decentralized

    Senior Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsARES had a good 401(k) program and contributed to interesting aerospace and defence projects

ConsEmployees were largely left to their own, embedded within contracts at other companies. Teaching and mentoring for younger staff was poor. 'peer review' was presumably ARES' main competitive strength, but lacking strong collaborative ties within the decentralized and rapidly changing corporation eroded dependability.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove internal communications. Managers communicated well with each other, and trickle down information but technical knowledge about people and their abilities was passed slowly.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe people are nice and there is a great opportunity for advancement. The offices are amazing and there is great transparency between management and the rest of the employees.

Fascinating projects. Good people. Growing firm.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsInteresting projects for high-profile clients in a growing field. Coworkers are generally quite smart and easy to work with and supportive of one another. Even senior management gets involved in projects, usually in a positive way.

ConsThe company is still growing--hasn't yet built a lot of "infrastructure" that you'd find at larger organizations, such as a formal training program or nice offices.

Advice to Senior ManagementI hope the company continues to grow and that it grows its infrastructure and internal R&D investments with that growth. Keep trying to treat employees well.
