Pros
Good opportunities and the payment is over the average according other industries. Areva invest a lot for training of the employees.
Cons
French company with a lot of restrictions, guidelines, procedures. Decision making is very difficult because of the french way of management.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open and share your proposals with the team before making any decision.
Pros
Great place because of the people you work with.
Cons
Management needs understand that the employees are the key to success.
Advice to Senior Management
Workers are your asset.
Pros
Constantly dealing with challenging work, good pay and benefits, excellent technical library, suitable managment, adequate resources, alot of technically proficient engineers
Cons
Constantly dealing with challenging work, temporary freeze on decent raises, few promotions, some non team player mentalities, new plant project decline
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on employee sharing, continue to attract big projects, give larger bonuses, less meetings, provide more blunt honesty about the future of new projects as opposed to blind optimism
Pros
background match, energy industry is growing fast
Cons
salary freeze, relatively low compared to IT companies
Advice to Senior Management
OK
Pros
Technically challenging work. Technically very diverse.
Cons
EPR too expensive. Need to win huge contract quickly.
Advice to Senior Management
Start winning contracts.
Pros
Strong company, good people, good reputation.
Cons
French influence in day-to-day operations repressive. Excessive bureaucracy.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember what made the company successful.
Pros
The Nuclear Renaissance is happening! There is a slight slow down on new plants due to the current world Economy but there is plenty of exisiting plant business until things get back on track. AREVA has (7) new builds (EPR Reactor) planned in the US. AREVA is the ONLY manufacturer in the world currently building GEN III+ reactors (Finland, France and China although Westinghouse recently broke gournd in China with their AP1000).
AREVA is the largest supplier of equipment & services to the commercial nuclear industry in the world. Much bigger than Westinghouse globably and somewhat bigger in the US. People fail to realize this. We are in over 20 states with 5000+ people.
Cons
Typical large company issues at AREVA.
Advice to Senior Management
Put more $$$ in sales and marketing.
Pros
I am at a northern minesite. I work a 7 on and 7 off shift. The seven days off is great. The wage is very competitive. Food and accomidation is covered for your week away from home. RRSP plan, dental plan, tool allowance, Boot allowance.
Cons
You are away from home half the time. This may be a good thing depending on your home life.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. We are the people who see and use failed and successful processes you create. Just because we are not management does not mean that are suggestions would not be helpful and original.
Pros
I work for the quality management at AREVA NP. This gives me the chance to travel around germany and know the suppliers we have, their abilities, and most important: PEOPLE!! The work enviroment is very good, and the older colleges are allways willing to help and teach you anything.
As a new employee, they are willing to spend some of your time in courses related to the work itself, but also to security on field, language, etc.
The Nuclear Power is a sensible area, and its quality management has the greatest responsability. This means, that time-schedule or money is not a reason of pressure for us. Our first responsability is quality, and no other.
Cons
AREVA NP is dedicated to build Nuclear Plants... this is not only a political problem (this kind of energy inspires very strong feelings among the people), but also suposes a greater chance of being irradiated (although, this probability is rather small), compared to other job.
On the other hand, since AREVA NP does not fabricate any component, we are allways traveling everywhere, from the factories where the components are finished, to even places where the nuclear powers are being mounted, like Brazil, China or anywhere, and this is not neccesarily fun. You have to be prepared to be away some days to maybe two or three weeks.
Advice to Senior Management
I do not have any feedback to give.
