    Get stuck!

    Recruiter (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsPeople are nice but there is too much bureaucracy .

ConsThey are still using Lotus Notes for emails. People tend to stay more than 15 years. Their processes are lengthy and time consuming.

It has mostly been a good experience to work at Areva T& D now Alstom Grid Inc

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsRelaxed work culture. Good benefits. Enough opportunists to work in different teams & products.

ConsMore a power systems company than an Software dev company. Most products are in outdated technologies. Customers dont care for the latest tech features.

    Real Habitat

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsYou can take long lunches to work out at the gym, driving a child home from school during work time, chatting at the water cooler, taking care of personal business such as taxes or bills.

ConsManagement turns blind eye on couple bullies. Tip: keep away from them. Slowly sinking ship doesn't invest in new technologies.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more technical. Seriously look at quality of new products. Let the people be creative. Plan for long term, not just for next bonus time....

    Good people

Software Engineer (Former Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsThere are a lot of bright, dedicated, and hard working people who are very committed to their customers. The local management recognized and rewarded top performers. The local management seemed very supportive of internal moves to provide people with challenging growth opportunities. In general, the local management was very supportive of achieving a good work/life balance (see downsides).

ConsLong-term vision, planning, process improvement were always talked about, seldom, if ever, executed. This seemed primarily due to a lack of adequate resources and support from upper management -- and an abundance of work. While the local management was very supportive of allowing people to pursue a healthy work/life balance, the amount of work needing to get done, combined with the number of people doing it (and their experience levels), made it virtually impossible for most people to achieve.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the local leadership lead. Support their direction.
