    Pros

Compensation is average to above-average. Casual to business casual environment. Nice work events and outings.

    Cons

Not a lot of managerial systems in place. No focus on mentoring or leadership advancement. Recognition program is committee based and biased.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More transparency as a company as a whole. Operations handled the "open door and open environment" concept well, but other areas, particularly management, were shrouded with "leave me alone" and a negative vibe. Complete lack of self-awareness at Presidential level.

    Pros

Great product line, customers and expense account. (200.00 bottles of wine are great)

    Cons

HR Manager has no talent and this trickles to the President of the company that is a transplant from the UK.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Japan needs to step in and either sell the US operation or clean house beginning with the HR team.

    Pros

Has the ability to be a successful organization in a challenging economic landscape

    Cons

Majority of the leadership has been in place for over 5 years preventing growth and inovation. Lack of a professional HR and Sales development will only cause company to fail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house of the Sales, HR and Regulatory teams. Determine how to work to increase moral and counsel the dead weight out.

    Pros

As a member of the USM sales team, I could spend $300.00 on a bottle of wine for a dinner meeting. Ability to rack up frequent flyer miles and hotel points for personal use.

    Cons

Lack of professional development, ability to move up unless HR created a new title. Direction of the USM division lacks professional drive and experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a consulting firm to provide feedback to Japan on the lack of innovation, professional drive and how the HR department needs to be outsourced.

    Pros

One of the very few positive things about this company is the benefits. Some friendly employees throughout company. Company offers some fun events but very low employee turn out. Looking at the overall big picture. Arkray is not a fun and rewarding place to work.

    Cons

Leadership is lacking - Executives and managers are puppets for Japan. With this said. Japan has zero interest in this U.S. based operation other than the final numbers. Product is not quality driven. Decisions are made day by day versus long term goals. With new HR department its more like a daycare than business. Managers are lacking leadership experience and communication skills. Too much drama! In most cases long term employee's are a welcome site at any company. These employees at Arkray are lacking the experience needed to be successful long term. Working conditions are terrible. Company is looking to move in the near future and refuses to put the money into the current facility to make it state of the art medical operation. Building is old. Not acceptable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to take a serious look at your overall operations. Offer additional training to managers. More effective communication. Offer all employees 10% bonus when goals are met. Offer career training for all the employees if they desire. Then promote newly trained employees within the company. Figure out who is doing the work. Figure out who isn't doing the work. Quality control is lacking leadership needed for a medical company. Poor decisions and lack of effective communication. Why all the air shipments? Too costly. Look at consultants. Spend money to save more money in the long run.

    Pros

ARKRAY is a great stepping stone to work for other health care and med device companies in the health-industry rich Twin Cities market.

    Cons

The home office in Japan makes all key decisions (slowly) which ensures that the already ineffectual and borderline incompetent senior management staff in Edina is even ineffectual and borderline incompetent . The President of the US division has no power and even fewer ideas. Job growth and opportunity inside are virtually nonexistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Settle on a strategy and stick to it for longer than 6 months. You can't grow a business when you change your focus as frequently as you change your socks.

    Pros

Great benefits - Some fun company events - Celebrate birthdays monthly - Popcorn Fridays - 10% bonuses paid out to executives and 3% to rest of employees. If/when company hits our goals.

    Cons

Terrible leadership. Company brought in new HR department. Now managers and employees are on edge. Building is old and aged - Not acceptable working conditions. Moved finance over to Distribution Center. A lot of money spent on failing analyzer business after optimistic launch.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some money on consultants. Find out who is doing the work and who's not working. Take a long and hard look at shipping cost. A lot of money being spent recklessly. Company is a day to day operation. One day this and the next day some thing different. No long term goals. Communication is terrible. Company supports good old boys club atmosphere. No training offered. No advancement encouraged. Quality standards are lacking.

    Pros

Great products and great reputation in the industry. Some really talented people doing great work here.

    Cons

Nobody at the wheel! Managers covering for eachother so they can all nurse a few more years out of the place. Not a very ambitious group.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a way to measure who's producing and who's pretending, and then you'll know why you haven't reached your potential as a company.

    Current Employee - Quality Systems

    Pros

    * Small company, so opportunities available for involvement in various projects, wear multiple hats.
    * Supporting work environment, close knit group
    * Excellent work ethic and commitment
    * Very understanding work culture
    * Great opportunity for future growth is certain issues can be handled on a timely basis

    Cons

    * Due to the small size, opportunity for promotions or to try a different job is almost non-existent
    * Due to the language barrier between Japan and US, a communication gap is evident. This is not only due to language but also culture, work, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * The management at the HQ need to understand that the US based company is also an integral part of the entire organization and should strive towards synergy in order to be successful among competition.

    Pros

I've referred a couple of people for positions here. Small companies often mean climbing the corporate ladder isn't entirely possible but there is a ton of growth within each position itself, versus at larger companies. For example, I've learned more here at ARKRAY in this position than I did in years at a Fortune 100 company

    Cons

Small company = resources aren't always there.
